Hi! I'm Mark, and I'm new here.

Can I get some feedback so I can improve my article?

    Here's the link:

I received an email that my article didn't pass the quality assessment.

It's my first article here at HubPages, and I don't have any background in writing except writing in my journal for over a year. But I'm eager to learn and improve my writing.

    Thanks for your help!

Here are a few suggestions on how to improve the article:

      1. make it longer. It is currently too short. 800 to 1200 words is ideal
      2. add more picture and at least one video.
      3. There are some grammatical mistakes that you need to correct. For example:

There is more than one error in the above. For example should say " I use my own version or use my own words .." The sentence either has to be subjective or use the third person. You cannot mix the two.

      4. Your opening paragraph should clearly state a problem and then your article should offer the solution. Your first sentence talks about your trouble with taking notes. You do not explain why a reader should care. You could say, "Taking good notes is crucial to understanding and remembering what you read ..."

      5. Do not put quotes that are integral to your discussion and the development of your article in a separate capsule. You can have them there, but that breaks up the flow of what you are saying and may even lead the reader to skip over them. If the quote is integral to your paragraph make it inline. You can also put it in a separate box for emphasis.

Wow! Thank you so much quotations.

        Yes, yes.

        1. I'll expand on it. I'll aim to hit a 1000 word count.

        2. Yes, I'll make it at least three.

        3. Thank you for that. I'll rewrite that sentence. I'm working on improving my grammar. It's my weakness, as English is not my primary language.

        4. Thanks for this! I've written it like a personal blog post, like I was reflecting on what I've learned about taking notes.

        5. Yes. I've been wanting to know how to add the quote inside the paragraph it belongs to. I noticed from some of the published articles here at Hubpages that they use this indented vertical line at the left part of the quote. It looks good, but I don't know how to add that yet. Does it require html knowledge?

I tried putting the quote inside the paragraph by just putting quotation marks around it. But it's visually bland. So I tried adding another capsule to add visual variety to my article.

Thanks for the effort, thanks for the help quotations!

I'm grateful that I joined Hubpages. There are so many people, like you, willing to help.

      Hello, thank you for responding!

I received these suggestions in my email:

      https://hubstatic.com/15721875_f1024.jpg

Can I hit publish so you can view my article? Will there be a penalty for doing that?

      I've written it like a how I write a personal blog. I guess that's where I made a mistake.

There should be a link you can click on to get help. It will generate a forum post.

HubPages isn't a blogging platform, you are probably right about why it has been rejected.

If you haven't already, then spend some time reading the material in the Learning Center. Click Help, top right, to navigate there. Also, read lots of other published articles on the network sites to get a better idea of what is required.

This would be the one that your article would fit into: https://owlcation.com

      Wow! You're so kind theraggededge.

      Thank you, thank you.

      I'll do what you suggested.

      • Explore the learning center.
      • Read lots of other published articles.

Thanks again! More power to you.

You've shared some good advice. As quotations has said, however, your composition is too short for an article, especially when the quotes are removed

I find the second paragraph confusing. You use the present tense as though this is something that you do now. Later in the article, we learn that you don't use the process any more. The first part of the paragraph is confusing. Rewording it could be helpful.

      Thanks for the compliment AliciaC!

Yes, I'll add more details to expand the piece.

Thank you for the feedback. I've been wishing to get some feedback on my work about the confusing parts.

I've read somewhere that you can be boring, but never be confusing. So I love your feedback.

About the technique, I'm still using it. It's how I take my notes, especially if I want to understand an idea from what I'm reading. Sorry if I confused you. I'll work on my English writing skills more.

      Thanks again for your help!

Ah... I can see it now. Yes, as others have said, it's too short. You could easily get 1,000 words out of this topic.

You are describing the Zettelkasten method. Perhaps you could expand on that? Another angle is 'teaching to learn'. In other words by trying to explain it to someone who isn't familiar with the material.

Also maybe explain how you store/file your notes. Digitally? Notebooks? How do you retrieve them? Do you read over them regularly?

    I found this article: https://zenkit.com/en/blog/a-beginners- … en-method/

See how in-depth it is? Without taking any of her text, could you make yours as good? Because that's your competition for readers' attention.

Thanks for your help again theraggededge!

I was talking about how to translate an idea we've read into our own words. Zettelkasten is a broader topic, focusing on how to organize notes.

About what you suggested, I like the idea of adding some details about how I store my notes. I tried using Zettelkasten for 6 months, but I stopped using it now. It's too complicated for me.

Now, I'm using a simpler version, a commonplace book, that I've learned from following Ryan Holiday and Robert Greene.

I think that's what I'm going to write about.

      Thanks again for helping theraggededge!
