My CPMs made a considerable spike yesterday.

    Anyone else experienced this?

My CPMs were higher yesterday than the day before, but I wouldn't call it "considerable". However, GA shows the highest ratings so far this month (as of 1/8/22). Users are up 30.2%, sessions up 38.6%, bounce rate down .6%, and session duration up 83.4%. Those stats are considerable. I wonder how HP collects data versus GA. The two are rarely in cinque.

My spike is so high that the surprise caused me not to look at GA. I guess I will now.

Let us know how they compare, Kenna.

I can't tell, but my session rate time is way up.

              So's mine. As of January 10th, it's up 136%.

That's great, Brenda. I am nowhere near that high.

CPM remains extraordinarily low for me although my traffic is picking up.

Traffic is picking up for me as well, and the CPM spike was just that a spike. It's back to a low range.

Same as Old Roses. Traffic good but no change in CPM for me. As I've got multiple accounts, I feel pretty confident that there's been no general improvement in CPMs.

One possible explanation is that, as the CPM of an account is a summation of the various values of the keywords being chased, they can go up or down according to how individual articles are doing.

For instance, if you have more views for an article that chases high value keywords, then it will push the CPM up. Likewise, if a low value article goes down in views, that can increase the CPM.

That's how I understand it anyway.

      Paul,
Interesting. I suspect this was the case. Thank you.

Obviously, overall it matters a lot how high the advertising revenue is, but the CPMs can be a bit flaky/mysterious as a measurement generally, in my view. I kind of take them seriously and I don't.

For instance, on one of my accounts (not this one), the CPM jumped from $3 to $8 and I have no explanation for why.

It's an aberration and I suspect it will probably drop back down again within 24 hours, but who knows!

The overall site views we can cross-reference by looking at sites like SEMrush or Ubersuggest, but there's no real equivalent for the CPMs, as far as I know.

In fact, how the entire advertising and revenue side of HP works is pretty much a mystery. We just get that CPM figure and can only make educated guesses. smile

I agree, Paul. Impressions vs CPM vs earnings seems to have no rhyme or reason. Earnings are so low compared to CPM. Do you know what the current percentage is for calculating our earnings?
