How do you update your articles? Do you just change one sentence just to change the date, or do you rewrite the entire article? Thanks.
It depends. Sometimes I am just adding a new link, other times I am re-writing whole paragraphs. My aim is to make the article a better version than the original.
Obviously I try to make sure that the grammar and spelling is correct/optimized, but then I'll usually try to add a sentence here and there to improve the quality of the work. I definitely don't rewrite large segments.
Usually, my goal is to improve just one text box. That does it.
Often, once I'm in editing mode, I see more things that need tweaking, but one sentence should be enough.
I usually add photos or diagrams and maybe a text capsule or two. Most of my articles are guides and there's only so much extra that can be added to them, without making them over fussy. And we know that Google often gives preferential treatment to thin, unworthy and "unwordy", uncomprehensive content, so I honestly don't know how to play their game any more. I don't think they have a clue what they want either because their algorithm changes are non-stop.
If we want to update our article then we have to edit it and check it for any mistakes or errors in it. After that we have to add additional content to it which is the main Idea behind updating and also delete or remove the unwanted content if there is any. The main idea is to make the article better than the older version. After doing that you have to simply click the button 'done editing' and it would be viewed by the visitors or readers in its updated form within a few minutes.
I often check that my links still work. I update images if I found better ones that are more in tune with the article. I might add or remove a video or change it to a better one. With experience and time I've become a better writer and as OldRoses mentions, it's about improving the first version. Check grammar and sentence structure to improve on them. I've even reshuffled my capsules so that information flows better. Sometimes little tweaks make all the difference.
Good question, Eric. I'm embarrassed to say how little effort I put into updating my articles. To be honest, my goal is to do enough to please Google with a current date on each article, no more than 3 to 5 months old. Every now and then I may add a sentence, change a word, add or change a link. But that's not very often. I've never re-written an entire article. There are a few that never made it to niche sites because I was told to redo it and haven't made the time.
I add extra sentences as well as change few. I have also changed titles of some of my articles.
I only update my articles with new information if something about the movie, anime, or video game changed that requires me to update the article. For instance, when the "Kingdom Hearts" games became available on Xbox, PC and Switch, I updated my "Kingdom Hearts III" review to add the information to the article.

A few weeks ago, I posted some thoughts on why traffic is falling for many writers and what we might do about it. One of the things I considered is that massive rewrites and fresh articles may be the ticket to clawing back on some of these traffic drops. Here is some more food for thought on that...

I have an article that an editor has made substantial changes too. Including adding a bio that they wrote themselves. I have not seen an edit this bad in quite some time on one of my articles, and I do not want to go through the whole article and rewrite half of it. I've already spent countless...

If you go back and update an article that is not getting many views, do you change the title? If so, does this change the URL, and basically make it a new article in the eyes of search engines?

When you edit your existing articles, what do you do?

Some articles you can add to (or update?) every week, but should you? Does anyone know if how often you add to an article changes (positively or negatively) your views, earning potential, etc.

I thought this article was very interesting. It's by a blogger who tested long posts vs short ones, and found the longer posts did much better:http://www.quicksprout.com/2012/12/20/t … ersions/#.(note: there's a popup that comes up - I just closed it and it went away).
