Hello everyone! I'm new to Hubpages and was wondering how often the monthly balance updates as well as the total at the bottom of the screen? When I look to see the balance history for the entire month I count $0.04 earned, but the total at the bottom still says $0.01.

Also, do you know if you are paid for every ad a person clicks on? Or is it after a certain amount of viewers?

    Thanks!

    Addison

Hello, earnings updates daily but monthly earnings (as well as your total earnings) updates monthly.

You can expect the 24-48 hours lag between the dates.
Monthly earning also show up accurately after 2nd of next month.

As for how revenue is generated, that's a puzzle, as not all ads are adsense based for clicks and some are sponsor based ads which affect the revenue.

    Hello,

You are paid by impressions. Impressions are when someone stays on the page long enough to see the ads.

You can see your earnings rate per 1000 impressions (CPM) here:

Earning stats can be erratic. Those of us who have been here many years don't really take much notice.

Your earnings balance can be seen here:

    Thank you!

Do you have any tips for how to get readers to stay on your page longer?

I think, there's no concrete way to assure that. That's how it is in content writing.

The best thing you can do is to write quality and evergreen articles. Create a reader-friendly layout, and use appropriate licensed images to add.

You need to get your articles switched from HubPages to niche sites owned by the company, which is where the greatest income can be found.

I read your article about the Shedd Aquarium. It’s written well, but you discuss keeping whales in captivity. This is a controversial subject, which you should raise. You could approach it by saying that it’s wonderful to see a whale close-up but then bring up the controversy.

I think you have to tone-down the last section as well. I know from experience that visiting the aquarium in my area can be awesome, but not at the expense of animals known to be intelligent.

I should have referred to the entire order Cetacea in my post, or whales, dolphins, and porpoises.
