Accolades issued by Hubpages.

I recently received my first accolade of 1000 views and researched what these are and found many accolades issued by this community but are now phased out. So what accolades are presently issued by Hubpages? And why were the other phased out. I personally think it is a bomb feature.

To be honest, they don't mean anything to readers who come via search engines. And now the HubPages community is disappearing, they are not very important at all.

Yes, I do agree for readers via search, it doesn't matter much. But more importantly, do you think that Hubpages is losing its groove and will disappear? As a newbie, I'm liking this website very much, but would love to hear your insights.

There are many threads in the forum (not that you can find them in the forest of spam) about this topic. All I can say is that for the last few years there has been a significant drop in views, a massive fall in earnings, and a huge amount of intrusive adverts displayed on our articles.

There is nothing I would like more than to be part of an upturn but it seems that it is only a matter of time before HubPages fades to nothing.

I noticed on one of your articles, you say, 'Let's chat in the comments below'. But there is no way your readers can leave comments. That facility went some years ago. Best to delete it otherwise they will be left scratching their heads.

Thanks for the comments. Even I noticed that there is no comment box just today when I was searching for it. Maybe this will help getting me into the writers groove and publishing online. On another note, what do you think of my articles and are there any improvements that I should focus upon?

I wrote a long response and it disappeared. I'll try to remember what I said.

First of all, you have a lovely writing voice. You 'speak' to your readers directly and clearly. It's engaging and pleasant.

However, (you knew that was coming, didn't you?) I don't think you should be writing meta articles until you have the necessary experience.

I  have been writing on HP for 15 years. I used to earn four figures from writing here as well as decent earnings on other platforms and magazines. One article I wrote on a now defunct platform earned me over $2k. But I wouldn't have the nerve to tell other people how to do it. Especially now when content writers are struggling.

So if I were you, I'd take the advice you give in your article, 'Tips to Get Traffic...' and write engaging articles that answer questions that people are searching for.

Here are some issues you need to address:

Write your subheadings in title case. Use them as SEO opportunities so use pertinent key phrases. Don't use abstract headings like 'The Tidbits' because it doesn't mean anything in relation to the article or section.

Capitalise proper nouns such as Google and Amazon.

Always, always check your grammar. There are many errors throughout that piece. The paragraph starting "Avoid grammatical/ spelling mistakes..." is full of them and that isn't a good look. Avoid giving out such advice unless you are sure your grammar is perfect. Run your text through Grammarly before pressing Publish. You can even add it to your browser so it checks as you write.

What does this mean? "Add elusive summary..." Elusive means hard to find or see. It doesn't make sense here. Your article should have a clear introduction telling the reader what they can expect and it should have a succinct conclusion covering what they just read. They should never be 'elusive'.

You have to go over that article word by word, sentence by sentence. There is a lot of work to do to bring it up to a high standard but you can do it.

Again, I would encourage you not to write about earning money unless you have already achieved it yourself. Share your writing journey by all means but avoid the 'how to earn money' topics. A writer has to be believable and be able to back up their claims. As I said, the present time is not a great one for even the most experienced writers.

      Good luck.

Edit: Meant to say: your article "Best Websites to Write For" has a URL ending in 'whistle-blower-policy'. Your URL should always relate to the subject and I guess you started writing something and then changed it to the current title without editing the URL. You can't edit it now as it has been published so you should delete and republish under a more appropriate URL. Leaving it as it is is not good SEO.

Thanks for the very detailed reply. As a newbie writer I'm still learning all the know-hows and have already taken to do some of the improvements you have mentioned above. PS for the URL one, I only noticed it after I published and have been stuck on how to change it. Thanks for the advice, I'll now go and do the same.

HubPages now have a new bose, in the person of Paul Edmondson.                                 Let's see if he can turn the site around.                                                  I even rely on Matt Well statement that Hubpages is here to stay.

Don't hold your breath.  Edmondson is the interim CEO.  An interim CEO is a temporary leader until a permanent replacement can be found.  Interim leaders do not usually make any major changes.  They maintain the status quo at the company until a permanent leader is chosen by the Board of Directors.  The permanent leader is the one who makes changes.

Thank you. I forgot he  Paul Ed, was appointed interim CEO.                                              Even in that temporarily state, he can apply wisdom to turn hubpages round.

Maybe, they'll hire Elon Musk after Trump tires of him.
He has proven skills at destroying enterprises.

Yep. Let's get back to the OP. There are other threads for Paul Edmondson.

I believe the subject matter of this thread was satisfactorily covered in your initial and succinct response: accolades don't matter.

All further discussion after that seems superfluous. smile

May be, hubpages need to start awarding a JOKERS accolade.
