HP is for writers not businesses. In the last 12 hours, three companies have followed me. Where are they getting the idea that they can join HP and promote their business?

Ask Hubpages. And I think this is all due to sparms.

You'd think HP would clarify that it's for writers not companies.

A writer follows a fellow writer or reader. Where does it says otherwise?

There are so many businesses that think this is a social media platform.

        They mis-lead themselves.

Possibly, or HP may have promoted the platform incorrectly.

Agreed. But sparming can't be rule out.

I've had several businesses leave me fan mail over the years.
I have never understood how they can be here.

I've had five in the past week, Kenna.  I forward the "new follower" email on to HP.  I hope that helps.

Genna, I am curious how these companies find us. If I ran their marketing department, I wouldn't ask them to join HP because it does nothing for them. It's a waste of time.

I was going to do a little research into how these commercial entities choose us, but ran out of time. (Is it based on recent search threads or featured publications?)  I would think that HP would know what the common denominator actually is.

Genna, that's a proactive approach, but I can see how running out of time is a factor. It's not our job to figure out HP's messups. Besides, I don't see them listening to us either way.

I naively thought they were looking for content writers:-)

Report them via their profile. The more people who report them (and it only takes a few seconds) the better.

I also request that they be removed from my followers.

Yes, reporting them is the right thing. But when  Hubpage's Matt said leave that to him, that he'll deal with sparms, sparmers, and sperming, you expect us writers to go beyond? I'm having a field day.

He was referring to the mass spammers infecting the forum.

If you are notified of an individual spam account following you, then report it because he probably wouldn't see it.

Not sure about 'sperming' though big_smile

Bev, thanks for drawing my attention to the spelling error. Your input well noted.

Bev, I ignore them and let HP or Matt remove them. It's not our job.
