And so now it seems that "Author View" is no longer working. Want to copy and paste one of your articles? Good luck. It will be littered with ads (a sweet reminder of why we stopped loving HP).

I haven't looked at Author View since I moved all my articles over to my Authory portfolio site (and created copies to keep on my hard drive). I stopped "loving" HP six years ago, Linda!

Author View is working. Visit this link and click the "author view" link after the title of your published articles: https://hubpages.com/my/hubs/stats

Hi Linda.  I can still open up my Author View as well, but I only have three left on HP.  I've removed the rest.

      Hi Linda,
Author view has been working for me. I find myself a little sad at times, as I copy these hubs for posterity, or something. I have also started deleting them as I go...down to 30 or so now. The rest will disappear today/tomorrow.

My profile number is in the tank, lol, and my article scores are abysmal, but none of that matters anymore.

I know Shauna is still here  :-) What about other old friends, have they already left the site? billybuc, Flourish, Pam, Alicia C (Linda), others?

Bill is alive and well and enjoying traveling and work on the farm. I don't know where Flourish and Alicia are or if they are writing. Sadly, Pam Oglesby passed away two years ago. I am writing on Medium as is Jodah (John Hansen) and Peggy Wood.

Yes, now that you mention it, I do recall seeing that. So many good people met here on HP. Sorry that the doors are closing.

I know, just sad. It was such a wonderful, supportive, vibrant community. So many lovely people.

Very sad to learn about Pam and Linda.

What was the name of that other lady - she wrote RV articles? Very feisty but always entertaining. She passed away about four years (?) ago.

How is Medium working out for you, Linda? Membership fee vs earnings?

          1. Carb Diva profile image61

Annual fee is $50 and earnings per month are always several hundred at a minimum.

Wow, that's pretty good! I hadn't considered writing on another platform, but maybe I'll investigate a bit further.
How long have you been on Medium and how many articles do you have?
Can you upload stuff from HP...I assume you would have to wait for a time so it doesn't get flagged?

I've been on Medium about 3 years and have almost 700 articles published. There is an option to "Import a Story" but it doesn't work very well. I find it easier to go to Author View on your Hubpages dashboard and do a copy and paste. You can self-publish on Medium, but if you have a particular niche, a speciality, you might get more eyes on your writing if you can find a "publication" that fits your style. I post almost all of my writing (food) on Tastyable.

ah, I see. A niche within Medium...just looked at Tastyble. Interesting. And Editors! Are they helpful?
I had an Editor here at HP who was super great (music). Lance was his name. Always so helpful re: SEO, photos etc.

If you don't see Author View, load the article, then right-click your mouse and select "open in reading mode". Then you are able to copy/paste the article (including pictures) without seeing ads. Hope this helps.

Jodahposted 2 weeks agoin reply to this

I really enjoy Medium. It took a little while to settle in but because they encourage interaction and commenting it feels like HubPages used to …especially with some familiar faces from HP there smile
I have almost 1000 articles there, and although earnings have dropped from what they were two years ago, I still make more than I ever did on HubPages.

I didn’t become a paid member until I was earning more than the $5 per month membership fees. The best part about it is the ease of writing there and no ads.

                1. Kaili Bisson profile image60
Kaili Bissonposted 2 weeks agoin reply to this

Just so I understand, John. You didn't sign up and pay the $50/year membership until you were basically earning enough to cover that? If I read the posts about Medium correctly, that would mean that paid members were reading your stuff, enough to generate $5/mo in your pocket?

Can you have your articles behind this "paywall" they mention if you haven't paid the $50 membership? I believe this means SEs can find the articles not behind they paywall, but they (i.e. Google) can't see articles behind the paywall?

I like what you mention about the feeling of community, with interaction and commenting. I always liked that about the HP of old. And no ads sounds wonderful!

                  1. Jodah profile image83
Jodahposted 2 weeks agoin reply to this

You can sign up and pay yearly or monthly immediately. Then you can read as many articles as you want. If you aren’t a paid member you can only read three articles per month, unless a member gives you a “friend link” which allows you to do so.
Things have changed since I joined three years ago. At that time you needed to gain 100 followers before you could join the paid Partner Program. Now, I think you can do that immediately but I don’t think you can earn now unless you are a paid member.
SEO can see articles behind the paywall but non members can only read the first few paragraphs unless they have a friend link or you include that in your article.
You only get paid for views by other Medium members, or if new members join by reading your stories.
It sounds more complicated than it really is. You also need to publish regularly and consistently as the income isn’t passive, but you can keep changing the stories highlighted on your profile so people who haven’t read them before are shown them first if they view your profile.
(Some people don’t put their writing behind a paywall simply because they want wider exposure, and hope to make money by other means.)

  5. Carb Diva profile image61
    Carb Divaposted 2 weeks ago

There are no ads. Medium now uses a soft paywall. Members pay for unlimited access, but non‑members can still read some stories for free, especially through direct links or social media. Writers only earn money when Medium members read their stories, so someone can read your work without subscribing, but it won’t generate revenue unless they’re a member.

    Hello All,
What's the easiest way to remove our articles? I hate to complain but I'm overwhelmed and haven't started yet. I just saw the latest updates about the closing and that we have to have everything copied and saved by the end of this month. I don't know how I'm going to get it done. Help! I will try to make time this weekend to delete some.

It is best to go through author view and delete. You can do it! Try watching TV and have HubPages up and keep deleting. I just deleted nearly 700 articles. I spent 10 minutes here and there each day. It took me about 10 minutes to get rid of 42 articles. Just trying to give you an idea of how long it takes.

It feels good to have removed them all.

I spent just an hour or so purging what I needed gone. But that's because I didn't have to worry about backup and wanted to bulldoze through. Later on, I realised this created certain reposting issues. I have to struggle a little to remember where I placed some pictures and shout outs.

Speaking of pictures, for those using the print-as-pdf method, I hope you know that settings matter. If you don't set these properly, you can end up grossly compressing your images. Fine if you just want a keep sake, no good if you are reposting.

          Hi Ced,
Pictures were not fun. I was lucky in that many had a spot where the full-size original image was available, along with the name (to remind me where I used them). For the others, I copied them into Paint, hoping I had labelled them correctly as to who or what they were...then clicked "remove from gallery" as I went along.
