Post some of your favorite song lyrics. They can be profound, clever, silly, or they just caught you the right way one time, who cares? What are your favorites?

    Two of mine:

    Form Jethro Tull's "Wind Up:"

"So I asked this God a question
and by way of firm reply,
He said -- I'm not the kind you have to wind up on Sundays."

And from Weird Al Yankovic's "One More Minute"

"I guess I might seem kinda bitter
You've got me feeling down in the dumps
    'Cos I'm stranded all alone
In the gas station of love
And I have to use the self-service pumps"

    What are some of yours?

I like Yngwie Malmsteen Prisoner of your love

    My heart
fell into the palms of your hands
    this love
    made me understand
I've waited all my life for you
thought i'd live and die alone
    enraptured by the beauty
I'm a prisoner of your love
    enslaved by the passion
I'm a prisoner of your love
    I'm wrapped around your finger
like the ring on your hand
    I'm trapped
by your love i'm yours, please understand
I've waited all my life for you
thought i'd live and die alone
    enraptured by the beauty
I'm a prisoner of your love
    enslaved by the passion
I'm a prisoner of your love
    enraptured by the beauty
I'm a prisoner of your love
    enslaved by the passion
I'm a prisoner of your love
    enraptured by the beauty
I'm a prisoner of your love
    enslaved by the passion
I'm a prisoner of your love.

don't get me started.. I have many. stairway to heaven has to be one of my top favorites, here's part of it. I like it so much I even have part of it on my profile.

Yes, there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run
There's still time to change the road you're on.
    And it makes me wonder.

Your head is humming and it won’t go,
    In case you don’t know:
The pipers calling you to join him.

Dear lady, can you hear the wind blow,
    And did you know:
Your stairway lies on the whispering wind.

And as we wind on down the road,
Our shadows taller than our soul,
There walks a lady we all know.
Who shines white light and wants to show…
How everything still turns to gold.
And if you listen very hard the tune will come to you at last.
When all are one and one is all, yeah, to be a rock and not to roll.

    And she’s buying a stairway… to heaven.

here's my other top favorite, I promise I won't take over your thread.

    Imagine there's no Heaven
    It's easy if you try
    No hell below us
    Above us only sky
    Imagine all the people
    Living for today

    Imagine there's no countries
    It isn't hard to do
Nothing to kill or die for
    And no religion too
    Imagine all the people
    Living life in peace

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will be as one

    Imagine no possessions
    I wonder if you can
No need for greed or hunger
    A brotherhood of man
    Imagine all the people
    Sharing all the world

You may say that I'm a dreamer
But I'm not the only one
I hope someday you'll join us
And the world will live as one

Sorry to be a party pooper but John Lennon's "Imagine" does my head in!  I don't believe for a second that Mr Lennon would ever have given up his possessions/lifestyle, as he advocates in the song.

She never mentions the word addiction
    In certain company
Yes, she'll tell you she's an orphan
    After you meet her family

She paints her eyes as black as night, now
    Pulls those shades down tight
Yeah, she gives a smile when the pain comes,
The pain's gonna make everything alright

    Says she talks to angels,
They call her out by her name
Oh yeah, she talks to angels,
Says they call her out by her name

She keeps a lock of hair in her pocket
She wears a cross around her neck
Yes, the hair is from a little boy
And the cross is someone she has not met, not yet

    Says she talks to angels,
Says they all know her name
Oh yeah, she talks to angels,
Says they call her out by her name

    She don't know no lover,
    None that I ever seen
Yeah, to her that ain't nothing
    But to me, yeah me,
    It means everything

She paints her eyes as black as night now
She pulls those shades down tight
Oh yeah, there's a smile when the pain comes,
The pain's gonna make everything alright, alright yeah

    She talks to angels,
Says they call her out by her name
    Oh yeah-eah-eah, angels
Call her out by her name
    Oh-ooh-oh-oh angels
They call her out by her name
    Oh-oh, she talks to angels
    They call her out
    Yeah-eah-eah, they call her out
Don't you know that they call her out by her name?

There are too many songs for me to list that I really love, being a songwriter. However, growing up in the sage brush of Idaho, there was a song in my childhood that I have never forgotten. It made me laugh and always brought a good feeling with it. It's called "Plastic Jesus." One of the best performances is from "Cool Hand Luke" by Paul Newman. Here is the link:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GHf7TD4qwjk

You can google the lyrics, and it's been added to way too much. Billy Idol did a version which I don't like at all because I'm stuck on the simplicity of the original tune.

    I don't believe in superstars
    Organic food and foreign cars
I don't believe the price of gold
    The certainty of growing old
That right is right and left is wrong
That north and south cant get along
That east is east and west is west
And being first is always best
    But I believe in love
    I believe in babies
I believe in mom and dad
    And I believe in you

Well I don't believe that heaven waits
    For only those who congregate
I like to think of god is love
He's down below, He's up above
    He's watching people everywhere
He knows who does and doesn't care
And I'm an old and married man
Sometimes I wonder who I am
    But I believe in love
    I believe in music
    I believe in magic
    And I believe in you

I know with all my certainty
What's going on with you and me
    Is a good thing
    It's true
    I believe in you

    I don't believe virginity
Is as common as it used to be
In working days and sleeping nights
That black is black and white is white
    That Superman and Robin Hood
    Are still alive in Hollywood
    That gasoline's in short supply
The rising cost of getting by
    But, I believe in love
    I believe in old folks
    I believe in children
    I believe in you
    I believe in love
    I believe in babies
I believe in mom and dad
    And I believe in you

By the Gentle Giant himself, Don Williams. (had to remember the song title & singer first!  lol)

Makes me cry, but I love it anyway.  The message is simple and makes ya think:  What's really important out of life?

Oh gosh, there are so many. But, this is the first that came to mind. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here

"So, so you think you can tell Heaven from Hell,
    blue skies from pain.
Can you tell a green field from a cold steel rail?
    A smile from a veil?
Do you think you can tell?
And did they get you to trade your heroes for ghosts?
    Hot ashes for trees?
Hot air for a cool breeze?
    Cold comfort for change?
And did you exchange a walk on part in the war for a lead role in a cage?
How I wish, how I wish you were here.
We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year,
Running over the same old ground.
What have you found? The same old fears.
    Wish you were here."

I really love this lyrics from the song "when there was me and you" by vanessa hudgens

"...I can't believe that i could be so blind it's like you wee floating while i was falling and i didn't mind,.."

Another is in the song..."right here waiting"

"...wherever you go,whatever you do i will be right here waiting for you, whatever it takes on how my heart breaks I will be right here waiting for you..."

    ...it's nice...really heart warming...

Like everyone else here, I just have many to count. If you've ever had a friend/family member in a bad relationship this song makes sense
I never seem to find a reason
To let you in again, or forgive you
I'm sick of feeling like I need you
Knowing I never did, but I miss you
Taking and breaking and hating I
    Remember all you said
Taking and breaking and hating my
    Memories are all stained, again

Let me get inside your head
Let me show you I'm prepared
Let me stick my needles in
And let me hurt you again

I never seem to find a reason
To let you in again, or forgive you
I'm sick of feeling like I need you
Knowing I never did, but I miss you
Taking and breaking and hating I
    Remember all you said
Taking and breaking and hating my
    Memories are all stained, again

Let me get inside your head
Let me show you I'm prepared
Let me stick my needles in
And let me hurt you again

    Fuck you for killing me,
    Me!
    Fuck you for killing me,
    Me!

Yeah, Let me get inside your head
Let me show you I'm prepared
Let me stick my needles in
And let me hurt you again!
    Again!

    You're fucking killing me!

here's another favorite, heard it this morning on FB. one of the all time greats.  'over now' alice in chains

'Yeah, it's over now, but I can breathe somehow
When it's all worn out, I'd rather go without

You know it's been on my mind
    Could you stand right there
Look me straight in the eye and say
    That it's over now

We pay our debt sometime '

There's nothing you can do that can't be done.
Nothing you can sing that can't be sung.
Nothing you can say but you can learn how to play the game
    It's easy.
There's nothing you can make that can't be made.
No one you can save that can't be saved.
Nothing you can do but you can learn how to be you
    in time - It's easy.

All you need is love, all you need is love,
All you need is love, love, love is all you need.
