I think I'd put it as

"The 2 things that are infinite:  The possibilities of the universe and the capacity of human ignorance."

        Ok Raf: I was close...lol
I think that what he said was; "Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former."
        There we go.
        Anyone disagree with that?

I agree Rafini's two are good but I also like to think the two things infinite to me are the quest for knowledge and the quest for satisfaction.

YU: There's no doubt both of those are "infinite" if you are speaking of an individual lifetime.
I love Einsteins use of the word "stupidity" to describe us.
WE are certainly living up to the definition of that word.

That's a good point Rafini (re: YU's statement).  I would agree that the Universe is infinite.  Not sure I agree with the 'stupidity' one.  I'll have to ponder that one.  smile

"The 2 things that are infinite:"

    (a) Human potential
    (b) Wisdom(because there is always something new to be gained)

    Just a thought.

*so I guess there are more than 2 things* lol lol

    1. qwark profile image61
qwarkposted 14 years agoin reply to this

CAgs: Gotta agree with ya. As long as the human exists, the potential is there.
I've written "hubs" about "that" potential.

    2. Rafini profile image83
Rafiniposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Not to argue, Cags, but wouldn't Human Potential & Wisdom be the same thing?  And, basically, the opposite of the capacity for stupidity?

I'm thinking along these lines....human's can only reach their unlimited potential if, and only if, it's first unlocked by a lower capacity for stupidity.

      1. ceciliabeltran profile image66
ceciliabeltranposted 14 years agoin reply to this

stupidity is not ignorance...ignorance is the unknown, and stupidity is despite the known, yes some still choose to behave/believe otherwise.

stupidity is not infinite, it is a fixed point that is immovable because it cannot learn.

        1. Rafini profile image83
Rafiniposted 14 years agoin reply to this

understood, but don't think I can agree.  stupidity is, plainly put, a lack of intelligence.  ignorance is, plainly put, a lack of knowledge.  how can one not be the other?

I believe ignorance to be a choice because knowledge is always available, whereas intelligence is limited to what is known at the present time.

          1. ceciliabeltran profile image66
ceciliabeltranposted 14 years agoin reply to this

well a lot of people are ignorant of say...my real life and may judge me based on my forum comments but they are not stupid, just uninterested.

Most people don't know that they are ignorant, but stupid people, know they're stupid and chose to be stupid.

            1. Rafini profile image83

stupidity is not infinite, it is a fixed point that is immovable because it cannot learn.

this is from your post just prior to mine.

Most people don't know that they are ignorant, but stupid people, know they're stupid and chose to be stupid.

this is from your most recent post.

Is it true stupid people can't learn or do they choose stupidity??

Ignorance is a choice to not be aware, while intelligence (the opposite of stupidity) is limited to what is known about the world at the time of existence.

(btw - interest, or lack of, has nothing to do with ignorance or intelligence.  it's a controlled choice)
