I keep reading about the positives of Hubpages - and the negatives. I come across both sides both on and off-site.
I was wondering what HubPages does for you?
Does/has HP:
- Pay your rent/bills
- Allow you to work from home
- Improved your writing ability
- Improved your understanding of SEO
- Improved your marketing skills
- Improved your ability to write online
- Allowed you to share advice
- Allowed you to share your knowledge
- Showcase a talent, such as poetry, fictional writing etc
- Helped you deal with something ... I've noticed some hubbers have dealt with grief or another personal difficulty or issue by writing about it
- Given you the chance to bring something to the attention of others?
- Something else?
I'm curious because there's such a wide variety of opinion as to the good and bad relating to the site. But - let's focus on the good stuff
Moaning doesn't bring change - only action
Apart from dealing with grief hubpages has allowed me to do all of the above, granted it doesnt pay my mortgage but it pays 2-3 bills a month and keeps on growing so its all good!!
Has
-improved my writing ability
-understanding of SEO
-Marketing skills
-writing online
-shared advice
-share knowledge
-showcased only one creative writing post
-given me a chance to bring something to others attention
-made a believer out of me
-teaches me things I never thought to learn
Has not
-made me any money ($1) although I just started
-Allowed me to work fom home(although I do anyway)
It is hard to say what else it has not done for me, as I came here expecting exactly what has happened.
The community is much better here than most places I have been. Usually if I were to say anythin I would get attacked and told on wrong... on opinion based posts.
√ Pay your rent/bills(well, if I reach payout this month. )
√ Improved your writing ability
√ Improved your understanding of SEO (by 100%)
√ Improved your marketing skills (I can write sales copy on nearly anything now!)
√ Improved your ability to write online (Before, I'd make 500 word forum posts etc. Now I can just refer people back to my hub.)
√ Allowed you to share advice (If you haven't noticed!)
√ Allowed you to share your knowledge (I never shut up and my hubs include topics from pets to babies to games and tape dispensers!)
√ Showcase a talent, such as poetry, fictional writing etc (I write poetry and have just tried my hand at short stories.)
√ Helped you deal with something ... I've noticed some hubbers have dealt with grief or another personal difficulty or issue by writing about it (Written story of growing up with bipolar mother.)
√ Given you the chance to bring something to the attention of others? (Finally! People are listening!)
√ Something else? (Made me think that I CAN get money by sitting on my arse, even though my parents told me I couldn't. )
all of those things you have shared except paying mortgage and going through grief (besides the occassional forum thread.. )
I think HP is a great platform to showcase our work in one place. It can be used as our online portfolio like our own cyber magazine.
the money potential is exciting. my first payment should arrive in Oct. it will pay a couple bills which I will pay happily knowing how that money was made.
I enjoy the intellect, humor and kindness of many HP writers.
It feels like a community.
the staff are constantly upgrading and doing their best to give us the best tools to work with. and they listen to us.
and they interact with the community.
I'm a happy camper.
Oh wow guys - that's an amazing set of responses already!
I'm happy to hear that you've all evidenced the positives, many of which come from the community spirit that is a part of what HP is all about. I know we're not all happy with aspects of it, I've seen it, read it etc in and among. But - it sure is good to hear what's right with something, what makes HP a great experience on the whole
And yes - the persitence of the HP team, all who must put in some impressive hours keeping the machine moving progessively forwards. I bet there's been a few headaches in that office

When I first began writing here at HP I was terrible, but I still got moved to Soapboxie with ease. Now that I've improved, I can't get a single article through to that specific niche site. My three best articles on Soapboxie, allegedly, are as follows:https://soapboxie.com/us-politics/Polit...
