I was asked a question about who is my favourite poet and in complete ignorance, now I see, I answered:

'I don't have a particular favourite poet, in fact the author of the poem doesn't really matter to me. It is their use of words and the feelings that they convey that excite my whole being. I know some quite unknown poets who have a very, very special way with words'.
    ,
Clearly I apparently answered incorrectly and was penalised.  I do not understand why because I spoke the truth!
Any suggestions as to how I may rectify this?

You cannot be penalized for answering a question. If you have been voted down, that is merely a subjective opinion. People do this for all sorts of reasons. The worst that could happen was that your response could disappear from sight if voted down enough times. Really, it isn't worthwhile worrying about.

If it is very important to you, you could write a hub about it, and link that to the question - there is such an option integrated with the question.

I found the question and saw that your answer had been hidden due to negative feedback. I thought you answered appropriately, and voted your reply "up."

Thank you Website Examiner for your reassurance.  I am relatively new to hub pages and in all honestly that incident really did put me off.  Thank you for explaining and also for your kindness in voting me 'up'.  Yes maybe a hub on this would be a good idea - thank you.

You will find a lot of helpful people on here, Website Examiner is one of the good guys.

I am a bad guy - the problem will be that poetry-god is punishing you for not mentioning ME ME ME

And of course anyone with a hub will be selling poetry books from Amazon so they will all answer the question with the author they are promoting - won't they ? big_smile

Alternate Poet is one of the good guys also, but he won't admit it (because he is a poet). Acaetnna, your answer now has 4 plus votes, 3 minus votes, and it has been resurrected - it is no longer hidden.

I like your answer- it speaks of how you look at things. it isnt the name of  the author it is the words in the poem that are written that speak to you. I wouldnt try to rectify anything-you didnt do a thing wrong. Website examiner is right- it is just opinion- some will agree-others will not, dont let it sway you from not answering questions honestly.
Welcome to Hub Pages...it is a melting pot for all sorts of writers and thinkers/ all are welcome here  smile

Not surprisingly, I agree 100% with HC Porter ( I followed her over here to see what this forum thread is all about!).
Totally agree that taste in poetry is personal. I also agree that Hub Pages has some AMAZING poets -- known, semi-known and waiting and totally deserving to be discovered.

Glad to have you with us. Good for you for speaking up! MM

Mighty Mom thank you so much for taking the time and trouble to leave a comment, you really don't know how much this means to me.  I am not a poet, in fact have never written poetry before in my adult life.  I just love reading the poems of others that speak straight from the heart.
I will certainly be reading your hubs as well as hubs from others who have helped me regain my self esteem - thank you.
