From time to time I may follow couple of hubbers, but may end up quit following small number of them, if I see they don't even care about my fan mails after many days(e.g, one was disapprove surprisingly, or leave it for weeks there without approving them, it feels disrespectful). Yesterday I quit following two, coincidentally my hubscore dropped few points (I know it is not a very big deal in general), that made me wonder whether follow and later quit follow would have certain impact on my scores? If that is the case, I'd be careful about who I follow, and what I write. Thanks
Hi Snakebaby,
I agree with everyone above my comment. I don't believe that follow or unfollowing someone has anything to do with our hubscore. If it does than mine would probably be very low I would not take it personally if someone chooses to ignore or did not approve a message I sent, I feel I am probably better off in the long run.
I think you're taking the Follow thing a little too seriously.
I follow few. And most of the time I leave them fan mail. I have no expectations of whether they're read it or how they've received it.
When people follow me some leave fan mail. I read it all, and on occasion when it's obvious spam or they've made it clear in their message that they expect or want me to follow them back, I delete the fan mail.
When I follow someone there is no obligation that they must follow me back. I follow them because I like what they've written or I respect them greatly.
Hey Snake
I have yet to notice fanning or de fanning either way effect a score. I speak from experience as on average I loose equal number of followers as I gain, when I am honest with a comment It's good for 3 gone. This I know over 18 months to be true. I cannot sometimes keep quiet when it disgraces this community, and if de followed, then was meant to be. Just the same, I have probably stopped following more people in the past week than months combined, the entire time maybe 20, both did not change my score.
If I am incorrect, it was not noticed and I just outed myself
Must have been something else going on but I am off to follow you and lets see what happens.
If within 4 hours you hit 90 I will follow every hubber on this site and may hit 1000
Also have you noticed the fanning sprees lately, they are mind boggling! and against TOS rules, but they seem to flourish. If someone follows me and I wonder over to their site and see 1hour and 4 pages of following hubbers, I choose to wait for some work, but really don't feel the desire to flag them, things get petty enough
off to follow
Cheers
Hi Kimberly: thanks for taking the time writing this much. Glad to hear at least your experience says otherwise. I doubt mine will hit 90 today (only saw 90 once the other day for a short life span, hehe), but am happy to be followed. I'm not a popular hubber yet, so no fanning spree around me, though I have had same experience as gaining and losing the same number of followers. Did notice some hubbers do follows like spamming. You may be right, some people could be too busy to reply fan mails. Yet I see them leaving comments here and there and continue to write hubs, only that they don't touch my fan mails, that's when I quit. Think of it, clicking "approve" takes only one second, that's why I concluded they try to ignore on purpose; simply because they have higher scores doesn't make them queen or king! I'm extremely busy myself, but I never leave fan mail un-touched for weeks. Anyway, appreciate your ideas, btw. nice picture!
I hear ya girl. But just peed my pants [normal] laughing at your fan mail, game on! I'll match your time half way lets say 3 hours where you at? Couldn't figure out MA I'm in Crazy Canada so in 3 hours we will have 90 and 93 [poop was yesterday] Lets see
[note to hubpages in no way is this a form of gambling or doubting the scoring system here in our wonderful, fair community] [Should both of our scores dive by ten we will be clear about consequences of our behaviour ] [respectfully

oh snake thanks for the compliment and yes that is absolutely positively me, as a stewardess promoting [not any further to self promote] my latest HUBBBBBB!!!!!!!!!!!!
However I will clean up change my hair color have a boob reduction and back to myself soon, unless the other one of my accounts [prey and karma] bud in or my next hub warrants the full effect of a supporting avatar.
Yes I am aware most people don't get me, like mom and husband also hubbing here. I get me
See you in a few hours
I do not think number of followers you have, or the amount of people you follow, matters to your score. I also think perhaps people sometimes are busy, and dont notice the fan mail. It might not be personal.
Thanks. I believe it shouldn't matter much since I have seen people with scores close to 100 have only handful of followers. I do hope nothing is personal out there :-)
I bet its not. I know that sometimes I get busy, and forget to reply to comments and I feel bad later. I see a new comment and I want to reply with a well thought out comment of my own, but dont have time, and next thing you know....three months later I still haven't replied!! If your leaving people fan mail and they don't approve it, there is a good chance they didn't get the email notification and they have no idea it's there. That has happened to me too.
Yes. I just accidentally found fan mail today that I had missed. I looked back in my gmail and found it was dated October 6th, but I missed it somehow.
That person might think I am quite the jerk :-)
its too bad. Email notifications just dont always work. I finaly figured that out some months ago and alwasy click on "fan mail" when I sign in ...just in case.
Alright, so in the future I will wait 3 months (will try, may only be able to hold on for 2 months). Just left you a fan mail, better take action now, hehe...at least I won't think you as a jerk if you missed mine (never used the word "jerk" in writing anyway, interesting, first time ever:P, feels weird, since English isn't my native language)
I have an interesting question. I just noticed that http://hubpages.com/profile/Whikat has 295 followers and only 12 hubs and a hub score of 100. My hub score is 94 and I have 405 followers and 84 hubs. I think I must be missing something here. I know some people may say it is the quality of my content but these figures still don't add up. Any advice.
That's what got me as well, there's always something we don't understand and might have missed and hard to find exact answer
o, I've also seen couple of hubber accounts that has around 100 hubs yet the score is 1. I have to be blessed that I'm not one of them
From what I have observed, the most important factor is traffic. When traffic falls off, my Hubber Score follow - after a delay. When it picks up, the score rises, again after a delay.
Nothing else seems to matter as much although of course there could be factors that I can't see (like voting up or down or how much money HP made on their percentage).
Hi ZZRON,
Hmm, I wish I could answer your interesting question. Truth is I have no idea how I get to 100. I can tell you that I have written more than 12 hubs since I have been here, but I have taken many down. I agree with Darkside, I only fan people if I like what I have read and want to read more of their work. I feel that there should be no obligation for people to follow me, nor should I be obligated to follow them. I wish I could tell you some magical secret to getting a score of 100 with only 12 hubs published at the time, but I have no idea what the secret is
Just do what you love, and the numbers will rise.
I think it is important to stress the "want to read more of their work" part. Quite often I get followed by people who are obviously good at what they do here, but I have no interest in it. If they are writing about women's fashion or religion or personal electronic gadgets or something else I have no interest in, there is no point in my following because I am just not going to read it.
I know some people don't see things that way, but nobody should follow me expecting anything in return. It's getting even more difficult because my dance card is filling up; there are already too many things to read in HP's morning email and it has to be really interesting now.
Also, if I follow someone, it is because I wanted to read more. I would never imagine that they should follow me back and in fact am sometimes a bit unhappy if they instantly do (because instant means they just did it without reason).
Right on! I think I'll let go of the score thing, it's unnecessarily torturing. I have lots of ideas, just no time to write, and I should say more often don't know how to put them down in English, quickly. My vitamin hubs were all written in Chinese first, and then I took time to translate them later - that is not productive in this busy world!
I just looked at a few of your hubs. If you had not mentioned it, I never would have thought you were not a native English speaker.
I am sure it must be difficult as you might be uncertain at times, but your instincts must be very, very good.

I am assuming this is a new feature added on just recently because I never remember it doing it before but anyways I have ended up with a lot of blank fan mail because the two are linked together someone wants to follow me and does not want to leave fan mail so they leave it blank and send it...

Is anyone else getting a lot of people requesting you to follow them in the fan mail comments?I have had about three people recently leave comments that ask me some variation of "Follow me because I have have followed you." My first reaction is to deny the fan mail and to not follow...

Some people have over a thousand followers and have just recently joined say 4 months ago, seems skiddish. what gives.

Naturally, receiving any fan mail is great. I tend to take things literally though so before posting, the question to tell the world what I think of that author stares me in the face and I write a mini recommendation. On the other hand, any fan mail received is more of a personal message or thanks....

How important do you believe it is to leave fan mail once you start following someone on Hubpages?Often times I will follow someone and then after I have gotten to know them a little better I like to leave fan mail. Unfortunately, that means sometimes I forget to leae fan mail even though I really...
