He is conspicuous because of his absence.
    He's a great writer.
    I miss his anti-religion banter!

Sometimes there is no good reason.  Depends on the moderator's mood at the time!

There are a few lying slimy two faced types who like to demonstrate their shallowness and lack of morals by 'reporting' people.  I would guess they have formed a little club and all 'report' at the same time to make some bland comment look like a personal attack  -  it is easy to do, I got banned in my 'earlier' days for suggesting that two particular people were 'in bed together' on the subject - apparently she was a married woman and that kind of disgusting talk etc etc . . . . .   one week ban for me.

This problem is not unique.  You'd think a moderator on HP would be smarter than that, but noooooooooo!  These types of bans make one not so trustful in the ability of those placed in the "HP Hall Monitor" position!

I've missed EH too, even though he and I are at opposite ends of the faith spectrum.

As for your moderator comment:  this is really funny to me, after reading all the extremist rants on that anti-Hubpages site (vitriolic comments by spiteful ex-Hubbers); they think the moderators here always favor people with liberal views!

Poor moderators - I guess they just can't win.

Don't get me wrong, we need moderators but sometimes they ban folks for posts which are mild, to say the least.  Then sometimes the most obnoxious posting is ignored.

This puts forum posters in the position of not knowing exactly what is, or is not, acceptable at any given moment.  Are there different moderators at different times of the day?  I would hate to lay the blame on all of them if only one was this sensitive, or gung ho, as the case may be!

    Lol, China man.

Obviously, they had never heard that term before? Stupid is as stupid does, that is my motto.

Well - it may be a rash thing to say here - but it is the moderator who was stupid and maybe did not bother to read the post enough to catch the meaning.  The 'reporter' knew exactly that she was twisting the words.

I hear ya.  I think that there are different mods at different times of day, maybe on different days, etc.  Or maybe they're all always on duty and it's just a question of who sees what first.  I've noticed that one in particular seems more sensitive than others - but maybe it's just because I happened to notice that that one closed a couple of threads much earlier than I thought was appropriate.  Just my opinion.

I also think that they tend to wait until Hubbers report an individual before they ban someone from forums.  I've read that they prefer to let the Hubbers work things out, when possible.  So that would mean that a ban might depend on how sensitive the participants in the forum are - and that can vary with the Hubber and even how they are feeling on a particular day!  big_smile

I'm not even sure they read all of the forums unless called in to check a specific one.

We can guess as much as we want about these things, but we don't know anything for sure.  I wish the moderators would be identified while on duty.  This would let us know when to post without being so paranoid about what words we used in certain forum topics.

You know a lot of the bigger message boards and sites I go to have that: This Forum is moderated by " so and so" thingy at the bottom. sometimes it's five or more people.
But you do know who the mods are.

Randy Godwinposted 14 years agoin reply to this

Yes, some other sites do identify the moderator(s) and this does let you know what to expect somewhat.  I certainly hope the bannings are the result of more than one person's judgment on a forum post.

Those sites with only one main moderator may have a blustering "terror" running the boards!  Helium comes to mind!

Earnest emailed me and indicated that he had finally seen the light and was converting.  He thanked me, along with all the other believers, for our persistance and clear-headed arguements in support of religion.

He is currently focusing on preparring for his upcoming baptism, and looks forward to rejoining Hubpages after spending some time at a local religious retreat.

LOL you have a great sense of humor, Greek One.

But I would actually love to see that. That would be awesome.

      I'm still laughing.

Oh no!  They got Earnest?  First Mark Knowles becomes a baptist preacher and now Earnest is lost!  Never mind, I will never give in!

      Dear moderator(s)

This is an example of attempted humor.

I think saying nasty things about our hosts and moderators for doing their job is a bit like kicking the gift horse in the mouth.... (skipping the step of even 'looking' into why they did it).
