I would really appreciate it if someone could give me a step by step explanation of how to get a sign up referral link on one's profile page.
So far, I've wasted 4 weeks here because none of the methods I have used have worked.
That's because there isn't a single page that I can find on this site that is clear in how to do it.
They all leave out steps. For example, the official explanation gives no idea how to make it a link so that one can have 'click here'. It just gives you this horrible long line of code.
I'd really appreciate it if someone would presume I'm totally dumb, give me the URLs of what what I'm supposed to do, and how to do it.
Many thanks.

How to create anchor text:
http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/63837
Detailed Instructions:
http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/49926#post1200945
To create an anchor link you go into edit mode, you highlight the words you want to use. Then you will notice a little chain on the toolbar, click on that. That will give you the option to enter a URL.
Okay, I know I'm being obtuse but I think many struggle to put something into words so that people can understand what is being said. Same reason so many struggle to read a computer manual.
What I'm looking for is something that reads like this:
1 Click on my account.
2)Click on trackers.
3) You will see see a tracker number
4)You find your profile page by going to your profile. In the top left corner, you will see the words, 'edit profile'. Click on it.
5) Type 'click here to sign up'.
???????????
I have read numerous threads, hubs, and help columns. There isn't one step by step process on doing it and everybody who writes about it assumes that one knows what they mean when they mention something. Saying 'tracker' means nothing if one does not know where the tracker is and what it is. When I ask for the URL, I'm asking for the url of the page I must go to in order to make the code.
Once I make the code, how do I insert it.
Also, I see that the word 'user' is in the code. Does this mean I must substitute my user name in those words or is 'user' generic and everybody leaves it as user.
To date, I haven't read anything that I can do this by going from step 1 to step 5 and know exactly what someone is saying...
None of the hubs are written very clearly.
Thanks.
OK, here is a more simple explanation.
Log in to your hubpages account.
go to http://hubpages.com/user/new/
Scroll to the very very bottom of the page.
Click the text that says "Link to this page"
A popup window will come up.
Now there are two ways to do this:
Method One
Click the text inside the box that says "HTML Link Text"
Type in whatever you want the highlighted text to be (Click here), but don't use "Click here". Use something like "sign up for HubPages."
Go down to the bottom box and copy all the text there (Control-C)
Return to your Profile page or whatever page you want to use the text on, and open the edit box where you want to place the link.
Find where you want to place the link.
Click the first icon on the top left of the edit box that says "HTML"
Move your mouse where you want the text.
Paste in the HTML you copied using Control-V.
Clean up HTML and return to the normal edit box.
Method Two
Copy what is in the URL box using Control-C.
Go to your profile page, or wherever you want to place the link and open the edit box.
Type the words you want clickable (Sign up for HubPages).
Highlight the words you want clickable.
Click the little icon at the top of the editing box that looks like a chain.
Paste the URL using Control-V and click "save."
Tracker IDs are not 100% necessary, especially at the stage where you say you are. They are used to track the success of various methods of promotion.
As for why you don't want to use "Click here," it's because: how many times have you gone to a search engine page, and typed "Click here" in the search box? I'm willing to bet, none. And you'll never rank for it, because Adobe Acrobat Reader has taken that spot.
Sophia, what is your default tracker? Or... what is the name of the tracker that you have created that you wish to use? Post it here.
Do you want to create a link on your profile to the hubpages sign up page?
Sophia, this hub may help. http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-use-a-TR … h-diagrams
it gives basic instruction on how to use trackers.
you can make your own special code for wherever you're using a tracker, which is recommended. if you go through his hub, it should give you a clearer understanding.
and listen to darkside, he's a master teacher here at HP.
@Classical Geek.
I have done as you instructed. For the first method, when I return to the profile page, I cannot find an edit box. Nor can I find an HTML box.
There is a text box which contains my blurb but I cannot see any HTML sign on the top left of it. By edit box, do you mean text box?
Anyway, I gave up on that.
Then I went to the second method.
I get to the place where I highlight the pages I want clickable, and I click the chain. I then get a box where I put the URL code in. When I go back and test that code, whether I'm signed into my account or not, a pages comes up with pictures of hubbers. It isn't a sign up form.
So, I don't know what I'm doing wrong, but it doesn't work.
Also, when I got onto the hubpages.com/user/new, why do I want to link to that page. It is not a sign up page. Also,
Also, none of that code has a tracker in, so I really don't get this...
use this:
http://hubpages.com/my/trackers - make your "tracker" here
use this hub
http://hubpages.com/hub/tracking
Log out of your account, then visit http://hubpages.com/user/new/
This is solid too:
http://hubpages.com/hub/Create-a-Join-H … al-Tracker
Yes, I checked both of them.
He did clarify one thing that I wasn't told before - that every page says, 'link to this page'.
However, once one has signed into hubpages, there isn't a sign up page. One has to be out of HP to find the sign up page.
And once one is out of hub pages, it doesn't give a tracker.
What am I missing. Everybody else has got this, and I'm beginning to feel like the class clown, dunce, idiot, whatever.
Thanks for the two links by the way. At least I now know that there's one can link to any page... Now if only I can figure out how to link to the sign up page...
One more question, where is this edit box. That is the only other thing that I can think I'm doing wrongly. :0
I can see a text box when I click edit profile, but I don't see any other edit boxes, and there is absolutely no HTML sign on the top left.
Maybe, that's what I'm doing wrongly...
here,
http://hubpages.com/_put your tracker here/user/new
thats the sign up link
just paste it in - replace "put your tracker here" with your own.
Then type the words "Sign Up For Hubpages" highlight those words with your mouse cursor.
then select the chain icon -
in the box that appears , paste the above link 'http://hubpages.com/_put your tracker here/user/new" into the first field.
SAVE
your done
forget the term HTML - just use the "chain link thingy" as Susana S said "the sideways 8"
once you have it working, feel free to change your linked words to anything you like
The rational choice, Sophia Angelique, may be for you to hire someone to take care of the technical aspects of managing your account; leaving you time to focus on contents, marketing strategies and such.

I have a couple of people who want to join hubpages. I went to my profile page and scrolled to the bottom. I clicked referral tracker and copied and pasted it onto my profile page, with the message, "If you'd like to join HP, click here."Is that right? So if someone clicks that link, I'll...

How do you add a "Join HubPages" icon to my profile page?I've seen some mention that we can get a percentage from new people we get to join but can't find instructions for doing this.
