All this week, I've had trouble, worse each day than the day before, with S-L-O-W running on HP, horrible lags between clicking on a 'go to' link and the page actually loading.
It is worse than being back on dial-up.
It is neither my computer nor my ISP, as I am having this trouble only here, on HP. Anywhere else I travel online, my speed is just as it has always been, which is to say, very fast.
I wonder if the new HP Ads program and/or the new text editor changes have caused this lag?
Is this a recognized glitch, or is anyone else having lag trouble lately?
Thanks...
Have you tried deleting your cookies and your history yet? If that doesn't solve your problem, you should post what browser (and version) you are using. Perhaps, if it continues after these files are deleted, also check to see if this happens with more than one browser.
Hi, Sart T--
Thanks for your input.
I doubt that is the problem since as I said, it only happens here..not on Face Book; not on Twitter; not on Blogger; not on Google search.. etc.. Only here on Hub Pages. If it were cookies, cache, browser or ISP issues it would affect more than just this one site.
(In any case, I have it auto-set to clear cookies every time I shut down my computer.)
Dzy,
If there is something in your history or cookies that is giving your browser a problem with this one site, those steps could help. Another thing to try is making sure your browser and plug-ins (such as Flash and Java) are up to date.
You didn't mention if you were able to try visiting the site from a different browser with the speed returned to normal. If you try this and it works fine in the second browser, that would be helpful for us to know to help you out. Out of curiosity, what browser are you using? And of course, you could be right about the HP Ads program causing your trouble, but it doesn't seem like it's affecting anyone else which is why I recommend the troubleshooting steps above. I'm not an expert - I just like to tinker.
I had that same problem the other day. It was taking so long for a poll to load onto a hub I was writing that I gave up and left the poll out. My pictures were taking forever to load as well.
No lag on my side. Everything is fine. What browser do you use? I use Firefox and it works perfectly.
Hi, folks...
Thanks for the input..
Most of the time, I use IE 8. It gives me the fewest problems. I have Firefox, but don't use it very often, as it causes all kinds of grief with "freezing up" issues, sometimes to the point of having to hard-crash my computer! (I believe it was "Pcunix" who referred to Firefox as "a bloated pig.") I don't find that Google Chrome is much better..
As for the HP Ads program, I'm not using it myself--I was just wondering whether the added programming for it was causing an extra burden on HP's servers....along with the new capsule editing upgrades.
I will look into updating the plug-ins. I admit, about 80% of the time, I close the advisory boxes without taking action, as they have a bad habit of popping up when I' busy doing something, and my reaction is, "Go away! Not now! I'm busy!"
I'll also ask my husband to double-check my settings; I thought we had it set to clear cookies/history on shutdown, but possibly not. He's the computer techie here...he used to work as a hardware/software configuration specialist, but as a result, he now hates computers!
(Perhaps the fact that he was handling high-stress mega-bucks accounts from banks and hospitals upgrading their systems is why; after a couple of heart attacks, he left the field.)
If you've got plugins you're not using, can't you get rid of them?
I hope you also read those pop-up boxes before you close them - if you don't recognise them, they may a sign you have a virus!
I found this site which has a lot of advice and information on IE8 - if you have trouble following the posts, maybe they'd be helpful to your husband:

I have been here 3 years and experienced the ups and downs of HP. If they site is the one with the issue, they will correct the problem. Hang in there.
I use Google Chrome and today I have not had any issues.
Yes, the polls take a long time to load for some reason. I'm trying to add a text capsule to wrap up my hub for today and submit it and IT WON'T let me type anything into it! Only the subject...and I don't even want that. Anyone else having that problem?
I don't have any problem regarding some lags. But I suggest to use google chrome. It's faster to load. Less plugin so it run smoothly. Plus it loads normally on my PC not eating too much CPU usage.
Yes, I have had similar issues with the capsules and editing in general. Besides being painfully slow or sometimes non-responsive, I notice that now if I select a word to change to italics, it changes everything PRECEDING the word I chose. That has been going on for days. The other feature that I am not liking very much is the Suggest Links. It now asks us to pick and guess rather than automatically highlighting.

Is anyone else having difficulty editing comments they make on hubs? All day yesterday and on some hubs today when I have needed to open up my comment to edit it I click on "edit your comment" and the page refreshes to the top of the page. It has meant having to leave further comments...

My capsules sometimes save and sometimes - well most of the time do not save. I click and click. I refresh the page. I change browsers. But still I cannot finish creating a Hub. This is extremely frustrating. Any thoughts?

Today, I hit the "answer this question" button on the Q&A page, regarding a question about 'favorite poets,' and instead of giving me the box to type in the answer, it bounced me out to the front page.Thinking I had perhaps had my mouse in the wrong place, and hit a different thing in...

Lately, I have been noticing some odd behavior with the spell-check utility.Normally, if nothing is misspelled, a dialog box pops up stating, "No misspellings found."However, if there are wrongly-spelled items, they used to show up underlined in red. What is happening now, is that there...
