In my latest hub regarding the top 10 anime openings <snipped link> I felt the need to add a 5-star rating system to help the viewers undestand why a particular opening scored better than the others...

Sadly Hubpages didn't help me doing this... Even in the text editor, when you go to custom characters there's no stars there! I ended having to photoshop a lot of pictures with the stars rating and adding them manualy in front of each video but I wasn't completely pleased with the results...

I hereby ask the hubpages managment to consider adding a rating capsule... or at least add a rating option in the text capsule! That could be quite useful in this kind of situations.

    Thank you!

that could be cool if it was inserted in text capsule... kind like the amazon product rating I guess...

I can see how a star rating system could be really helpful.  Good Idea.

    Hi Anime_Nanet,

Thanks very much for posting this.  I think an easy way to post ratings such as a number of stars is a nice feature.

I'll add it to our list of possible new features.  Each week the hub pages team discusses new features to add to the web site and I'll be glad to bring this one up.

    Cheers,

    -Larry

I've thought about a star rating system on HubPages, too.  But the more I think about it, the less it makes sense.

First, no one likes to be graded.  Hey, you got a 5, you got a 4, and you got a 1 so you flunk.

One of the very neat things that HP offers is the "Hot, Best, Latest" designations for Hubs.  Hubs get into these categories by who knows what algorithms, but they seem to work, mostly.

If there were a star rating system, how would that be reconciled with the Hot, Best, Latest system?

I agree, Sally, I think the star system is not based on anything definitive, how would we tell the difference between a 5 and a 1 and readers might be able to sabotage a writing, just because they disagree with the content, not because it's poorly written.  I don't think it's a good feature.  Too impulsive.  thumbs up or down is sufficient, to me.   I would like an explanaation of "hot hubs" which is not based on page views, evidently, as I thought.  Let's get good explanations with what exists before we add new features that may not help the writer or reader.  Mob rule...not always good.  LOL

Hmm, I wasn't asking for a star rating for visitors to rate your hub...

I was sugesting a star rating for the hubber personal use so he could rate products or any other thing he is talking about... check the hub about top openings to see what I mean.

I just hate it when people don't read, even when the writing is perfectly clear and understandable.  I didn't think I fell into that bucket of non-readers, but here I am!  Anime_nanet, thanks for prompting me to speak my mind about something, anyway. smile
