Or can we also be using this for locations, vacation sites, etc?
You can (and should) use it for all reviews. It includes a special markup which tells Google you're reviewing something.
When it first came out, I thought it was a bad move to put the ratings capsule in the "recipe" section, because I'm sure a lot of people will react as you have, and think they can't use it for anything else.
You may can answer my question, Marisa. I have several review hubs up and have considered using the rating in my hubs. However, the hubs review three to four items. We can only add one rating capsule per hub, right? No way to put it in multiple items?
It seems that I can use it in many more of my existing hubs than first expected. Thus far, I have only used it in recipe hubs.
I thought this said "Rantings section". Am I disappointed.
Yup, you can use it for anything you're reviewing (although it is confusing since you find it in the recipe section...) I use it in my music album reviews and invite readers to cast their vote as well. I've noticed when I see the hubs in google it shows the current star rating just below the title.
Just another question, if the rating capsule is somewhere at the end of the hub does it show on google with the rating?
I don't know, lobobrandon, but I would assume so. It makes a bit of sense to have it near the end after a person has read the entire hub. Just my opinion, of course.

Quite a few of my Hubs have related Hubs. I try to put a few links in a Hub to another related Hub when it seems appropriate. But I see that the editors often remove them. I have tried to find out why in past forum postings without any luck. I assume it's because of loss of page rank. Is that the...

Since we all read and write so much, I thought it would be ideal to have a capsule dedicated to reviews. I didn't add product reviews because I don't want to have marketers self promoting those. Unless the capsule automatically prevents self promoting products.http://hubpages.com/forum/topic/99891

Rating capsule require highlighters. No matter wherever that is in a hub, it is absolutely not so visible. Some highlighter is really required to make it useful.
