Yes, Wordpress.org can be a good source of backlinks, however the actual Wordpress software is a very powerful tool if you feel like buying your own domain and hosting!
DevHub is a great mix of Hubpages, blogger and Squidoo in my opinion. It provides some amazing features and can create a wide variety of different homepage styles.
You are right, even the hubs on hubpages needs some good backlinks to rank higher in search engines. I will need to take a look at DevHub, it is new to me, or I cant remember using it.

Not a bad idea, it might seem a bit repetitive though as have only ever had good experiences with msot of those sites!
I have to check some of these out. Thank you. When I first read the title, I thought it was going to be an article based on dissatisfaction with H.P, but other than that great work. I wonder, would it be possible to add your insight on some of these as well? personal experiences, maybe?
