Would 'Good' exist if there was no such thing as 'Evil'?

I think there could be. We could define good without a comparison to evil. In fact, a definition that entirely relied on the concept of evil would be a pretty bad definition. We could just compare degrees of good, i.e. really good, good, kinda good, rather than basing it on evil.

How about this: what if evil doesn't really exist in our universe but only shades of good! Oh my goodness!

Child rapist and killer. What shade of good is that? Evil exists.

Agreed!!^^ I believe that good cannot exist without evil. There probably wouldn't even be the word 'good' in our dictionary. If we were, however, able to, "compare degrees of good" then we would not be able to fully appreciate what 'good' is.

Calynbana, a child rapist and killer's actions would be a very dark shade of gray. The outcomes of that person's actions is that he pleases himself, he feels good, that's a good thing. He got to the good thing in a very bad way, that's a bad thing...

There has to good and bad in existence or else you will never know the difference. One must experience a bit of each in their lives to know their correct choices

Most people are completely ignorant when they think of good and evil.

They immediately assume that what we have is duality.

But good would exist without evil because there would still be such a thing known as neutrality - there are three shades and good would be compared to neutral and subsequently recognised as good.

But how can something be 'neutral' if there are not two sides (good and evil) to be neutral to? The definition of neutral is as follows:     Not helping or supporting either of two opposing sides

There are different degrees of 'good' which we would still be able to distinguish. Also, without evil neutrality would be the worst action. Feed 10 people good, 20 better, 0 worse. Evil isn't seen in any action but we can tell which is more good.....

I think that "Good" could not exist without "Evil" just as "Evil" could not exist without "Good".

    They balance each other.

We wouldn't even know the true meaning of something that is good if we never experienced anything bad.

There can be good that comes from evil and evil that comes from good as well; it all depends on how you look at it.
