Is it really wrong to talk to yourself?
I do all the time, I think it's more just speaking thoughts out a loud
Talking to yourself is perfectly normal.
Honestly everyone does it. It's human nature. With have an internal voice and an external voice. Often both cross over.
People who say they have never done it are lying. Simple
Inner dialogue is a great way to cultivate ideas and to know oneself better. It is perfectly normal to talk to oneself - although I might not do it out loud in a public setting however I do tend to "think aloud" quite often.
I rant to myself extensively. What's right or wrong is a state of mind. People spend too much time worrying about the subjective rules on how you're supposed to behave.
It's not wrong as such, but I do find it distracting sometimes. There are a couple of people at work who constantly self commentate," I'll just do this, then I'll sort that out..." I'm already juggling several tasks and don't need to hear theirs. It's like they want everyone to know how busy they are. So it depends how much and where it's done.
I find myself doing this a lot lately. I seem to talk to myself a lot more when I write, kind of like I am reassuring myself on what I am writing
No, I think the troubling part is when people talk to themselves around other people. If you talk to yourself, out loud, at home, it can help you to organize thoughts and get things worked out. If you talk to yourself and expect and hear an answer, then there might just be a problem. I talk to myself all of the time - even while I am driving. I figure people will think I'm on a cell phone if they even notice.
Oh sorry, I was just talking to myself. What were we discussing, oh...
No there is nothing clinically or pathologically wrong to talk to yourself; however, if you do indeed start a two-way conversation (talking back to your self-talk) then and only then would we begin to contemplate and deduce if there was an issue. Now if you are doing this when amongst others, especially strangers then again we would like to discuss this with you...
There is some speculation that when you begin to answer your self-talk that it may perhaps be a symptom of Disassociative Identity Disorder (DID)...

How can I learn the art of small talk?Long ago, in my 20s, I realized that I cannot do small talk. I really don't know how...serously. In a family video this Thanksgiving, I realized what happens because I can't DO small talk. The whole family talks right over me because they're not...
