For me it's the music of Richard Wagner. I like his overtures, like Ride of the Valkyries and Lohengrin, and Tanhaüser, but get a few minutes into the opera and it's a real snoozefest, imo. I studied music in college, and Wagner created a lot of the techniques we take for granted today. Like when you hear two particular notes over and over again, you know a shark is coming? (You know the sound I mean--the Jaws theme) That's called a leitmotif, and Wagner invented that. What about you? Do you have something that you know you ought to really enjoy, but for whatever reason you don't?
