What methodology would YOU implement to improve the employment situation in the United States?
I'm not sure what or how but, there needs to be some kind of regulations put on the use of temporary services; both by the service and the employer. There are many companies that run on 80% of workers being temporaries, that are working full time hours. It's very difficult to even get overtime because the employer is billed time and a half as well as the employee making time and a half. The result is the employer asking the service for a fill in for a day therefore avoiding time and a half entirely.
I also know a number of people that have been on one temp assignment for 3 to 4 years with no chance of being hired in.
And now, with Obamacare, a single person with no children, really has problems. Especially if their state has not expanded their Medicaid program. The temp service may have some sort of plan available at 100% of the cost put on the employee. And the employer has no obligation to the worker because their contract is with the service; not the individual. These people are not paid much more than minimum wage and can't afford an individual policy.
So, where does this leave them? Who knows?
The number of temporary employees used in this country is staggering.
