Not at all, it's just the Aztec equivalent of New Years!

    Once I asked a related question http://hubpages.com/question/91440/what … ember-2012

However, I think it will not be the end of days. First, it would be against all universal laws. And secondly, in addition to the prophecies for 2012, there are also prophecies for a long time afterwards. There are descriptions of the world by 2050. So I think life will go on. Maybe something different than usual. But that can only be good.

Throughout history, societies have anticipated an upcoming apocalypse. The only new aspect is the unfortunate ability for anyone in the world to log-on to the internet and create and perpetuate hysteria on a larger scale.

See a timeline of past predictions:

I think the Mayans ran out of room on the rock they were carving the calendar on.  But... for an interesting thought... December 21, 2012, is supposed to be the day that all the planets align. I think. So I hear, anyway. Will the world end on that day?  Who knows.  But I don't have any plans for December 22nd.  There's another theory going on right now that the world will end October 21st of this year...

It's not the "End of Days", just the end of the current Age of Mankind according to the Mayan Calendar's "long cycle". The next cycle (or Age) starts right after. Just because they didn't "publish" the next calendar, doesn't mean that time stops (or the "world is over"). Their civilization just didn't stick around long enough to do the next "printing". See our Article featuring "The SEVEN AGES" ( http://hubpages.com/hub/7-Minutes-to-Mi … -DIRECTORY ), and look at the last two Ages as an example.

Whether this actually means something significant for our current world civilization is another topic. Many people agree that we are on the cusp of a great transition in the world. I feel that this is simply Biblical Prophecy unfolding before our eyes, but NOT quite the "End Times" yet. We are just at the dawn of a blessed NEW ERA. Whether it happens exactly on 2012 is another matter, but we are close, none-the-less.
