What do you think happened to the ancient Mayan people?
You know the Mayan people were long gone before the Spanish stepped on their shores. So where did they go?
There are few 'civilizations' we know of ... while countless others lie buried in the debris of Time ...
Mayans, are just one of these countless civilizations, lost unseen, unheard and unsung ... whose relics survive what must have been a pestilence ... that swept the Andes ...
There certainly were no Aliens involved in the disappearance of Mayans ... from the face of earth ... it was their excesses ...!
But you cannot exonerate the murdering Spanish ... Conquestedors ... or their Conqueror's Actions ... or try justify the unpardonable sin ... of butchering the descendants of Incas and the Mayans ... in a rage ... a madness, called, the lust for gold.
Their descendents are still there to this day, living in villages throughout the Yucatan, Belize, and Guatemala. Economic collapse and famine caused by warfare and expansion caused the people to leave the cities and drift into small villages. The cities fell into disrepair, though some of them remained occupied by the time the Spanish arrived. It took much longer for the Spanish to conquer the Mayan regions than for them to conquer the Aztec or Incan empires.
The same as most civilizations throughout history, disease, warfare / conquered. Actually a combination of all of these. They are not "long gone", however, as Old Empresario stated, they do have descendants that still live in the area. The language used by the ancient Mayans is still used in some form by their descendants today.
