What is the most poignant question ever asked of you by a child?
It was very long ago when child safety laws were nowhere near as tight as they are today. I was a door-to-door saleswoman. I knocked at the door of a house and it was opened by a little girl. She looked at me and asked, "Will you take me with you?" She indicated that she didn't like living at her home. When the mother came to the door, I could tell by our small amount of conversation that there was something wrong in the house. However, nothing was plainly visible. The child was fed, the house was tidy, etc.; however, I was so uncomfortable. My heart broke when I had to leave that child behind. I still think of her occasionally and wonder what would have happened if the laws had been stronger and an investigation could have been launched.
