What President made George Washington general?
The first president in America was Not George Washington. George is the 9th.
Even if you consider the presidents of the Congress under the Articles of Confederation to have preceded Washington, none of them appointed him general. He was appointed by the Continental Congress, particularly at the behest of John Adams, who recognized the political value of having a Southerner, especially a Virginian, command the patriot armed forces at the time. This was well before the Articles of Confederation.
