Are you concerned about the future of our society?

While giving therapy to an injured High School female athlete, I was talking to her trying to keep her mind off of the pain, through this conversation I learned she had no knowledge of the Civil War or The Trojan War, she also had no idea who Ghandi was and never read Moby Dick. Am I the only one who thinks this is not normal?? What are kids learning in school today?? Shouldn't these things be taught in like the 5th grade?

I agree. But then again there's FarmVille, whatsapp and a bunch of other even more interesting stuff claiming their attention (span) ;-)

Yes, I'm very concerned which is why I try to stay involved with my kid's education.  I also try to implement learning points as we go through our day using historical examples.  I'm grateful that she is inquisitive as well.  I only hope more parents get more involved or their kids will leave them alone in their 80s wondering where's mom and dad and why haven't they made them dinner yet.  You know what I mean?
