What causes a child from a socioeconomically affluent home & with ambitious, successful parents w/
every opportunity & advantage to be unmotivated, have no initiative, and even be an underachiever? There are children who simply have no get up and go. They are aimless although they are motivated by their parents. They just do not want to do nor accomplish anything....
It could well be they haven't found their particular passion. You need remember that the world famous and late Winston Churchill was considered to be unmotivated, a bit of a dunce until he managed to talk his parents (yes, rich and famous parents) who allowed him to go to Sandhurst Military College. From that time on he blossomed.
Often the kids in those situations are given too much, too early, and therefore become spoiled and self-absorbed. It's tragic, because often these kids get out into the real world and have no life skills whatsoever. Another answer is that they might see how the parents work their lives away, and want no part of it. Perhaps they don't agree with the way society is designed, and are looking to enjoy their youth before they're forced to grow up. Perhaps, too, they're of the modern young generation that has no interest in anything and would rather be playing video games and navigating on their cell phone. There seems to be a large swathe of these types of kids coming out, a sure sign that society, and maybe even family life, is completely broken.
