Since it is a hot topic these days and some already have mentioned they have...

Have you taken a DNA test? Which company did you use? Do you want to share your results?

No I haven't. I wonder if it says something that I have no interest in doing so?

We had one done on my dad. I can't remember which one I purchased. It was funny. It appeared, historically, we shunned the Irish. It showed ancestors from the Scandinavia area, France, Wales, and some Native American.

Nothing exciting and nothing we didn't already know or suspect. I'm certain one done now would be more precise but I don't really care. As politically incorrect as the statement may be, there is one race. The human race. That is the American ideal. I firmly believe in it and any other information on where I may come from is superfluous.

*gasp*  You can't say things like that!  You're going to really upset an awful lot of people...people from both sides of the racist aisle. sad

I’ve done it through Ancestry, 23andme, Family Tree DNA, and GEDmatch. Not because I’m particularly interested in my ethnic background but because I don’t know anything about my biological father and his family and was hoping to connect with some matches. Anyway.... nothing at all surprising, I am 99% of European descent with a majority of that being Irish/Scottish. I have a pretty good chunk of Scandinavian too.

I like the health reports through 23andme. The traits are kind of fun but highly inaccurate. GEDmatch is a lot more science-y and you can pick which samples to compare your results to, they also run a report on if your parents are related or not. lol

I did mine with 23andme. As a Caribbean (Puerto Rican) I somewhat knew what my results would be. Nonetheless, I was surprised that I have a higher % of native than african %.

And yes, I had a good laugh with the health report. But mine is accurate enough. LOL

Not politically incorrect. Race doesn't exists, it's a social construct, not genetic.

DNA test has nothing to do with that.

Maybe you should share that bit of wisdom with senator Warren.

Based on ^that, I believe it's more helpful to you.

Me? Why me? I've just said Warren needs to join the 21st century and accept how ridiculous her claim is. It's not politics. It's just embarrassment for her continued denial of truth.

Don't know as I could agree with that.  "Species", under that reasoning, is no more than a social construct as well.  Both are definitions, not scientific facts, and neither one is absolute although "species" is much better defined than "race".

Btw, Aime, have you explored your raw data?

A little bit - that’s what GEDmatch is. I haven’t delved too deeply into the health related stuff though as I think it would just freak me out, haha.

hI, All, now I get a clear indication of the DNA  challenge. I am an African Nigeria. I don't think that traces of English, Dutch, Asia, and Ayan, for instance, can be found in me. My root in Africa. DNA tests here is not feasible at the moment. Thank you all.

    Yes, DNA has been taken.
I'm supposed to have English blue blood, and some black in there.

Hope that doesn't mean I have a bit of reptilians and forefathers had black slaves. I mostly chart my own desired destiny anyways. Lol.

Caring for each other is more important than blood realationships.  I forgive my forefathers, for it is what I do in the future,  is what counts.  What ever black is in me, it sure helps me to sing and dance.
