Blade - There's an old saying: Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer.

Blade II is a vampire, comic-book, superhero, action movie and it was released in 2002. It is also known as Blade 2. It is the second movie in the Blade series. Today it is considered to be the best movie in the Blade trilogy. It once again stars Wesley Snipes as Blade and Kris Kristofferson returns as Abraham Whistler. It also stars Ron Perlman, Leonor Varela, Norman Reedus, Thomas Kretschmann, Luke Goss and Donnie Yen. Guillermo Del Toro was the director of the film and David S. Goyer was the writer for this one just like the last time. Donnie Yen also choreographed some of the fights in the movie.

Blade continues to protect humans from attacks by vampires. But he gets word from the vampire nation that they now have a common enemy - the Reapers. The Reapers are much more worse than vampires and they spread more quickly and dangerously than the vampires. The Reapers want to kill both humans and vampires, which is going to create problems for both Blade and vampires. This will eventually affect the humans as well. So Blade is forced to compromise on his mission and agrees to a truce to work along with the vampires to stop a powerful and dangerous common enemy. He meets the 'Bloodpack', a tactical unit formed with one aim - to hunt Blade. So now he is forced to work with them to stop a common enemy. But he knows that this peace cannot last for long, which leads to a suspenseful, intense, damn good, action movie. Blade II was a box office success too. The combination of Wesley Snipes' acting and Del Toro's style made a great combination and it is there on the screen for everyone to see. This is what made this movie into a cool movie.

Story

After the events of the first movie, Blade has been searching for his friend and mentor Whistler. After a routine hunt by him against vampires, he lets just one vampire go and then he finally finds Whistler and tries to help him to become human again. Luckily, the infection which had spread upon him after the attack by the vampires recedes and he returns to the state of a normal human being. Until then, Blade had been taking the help of Scud to make weapons for him. When the Reaper virus spreads through the vampires and turns them into Reapers who either kill the vampires or infect them and then turn them also into Reapers. So the vampire Elder sends a truce to Blade - help them to stop the Reapers since once all the vampires are finished, the Reapers will start attacking humans too.

Blade is assisted by the Elder's daughter Nyssa and he takes control of the Bloodpack, a group of vampires who had trained for the last 2 years with just one objective - to kill Blade. This leads to lot of ego clashes between Blade and the vampires. Later, they attack a club together that has Reapers in it and then one of the Reapers give them some clues as to where all the other Reapers are. Jared Nomak who was the first Reaper is revealed to be the Elder's son and the Elder's daughter Nyssa also gets involved in the clashes between the Bloodpack and Blade. As they start fighting the Reapers, they understand that the Reapers are much more stronger than them and so they start using UV ray lights to attack and kill them. Once the club battle is done, Blade is attacked and taken to the vampire lair where it is revealed that the vampire Elder created the Reaper virus to make all vampires strong like Blade. He had tested the virus on his son first and that is what has led to all of this.

Blade kills all of his attackers and comes to confront Jared Nomak and the Vampire Elder. Jared Nomak kills the vampire Elder due to his anger at being turned into a Reaper and then he attacks and infects Nyssa also. Then Blade and Nomak fight it out as the final battle and then after a long and intense battle Blade finally manages to kill Nomak. Then Blade takes Nyssa to the balcony and then he shows her to the sunlight so as to stop her from turning into a Reaper. Once Nyssa is dead, the movie moves to another club where the one vampire that Blade had let go in the first scene is trying to enjoy... and then appears... Blade!

Movie Quotes

Blade -

  • There's an old saying: Keep your friends close, keep your enemies closer.
  • You obviously do not know who you are f***ing with! ('messing with!' in the trailer)
  • Forget what you think you know. Vampires exist. My name is Blade. I was born half human, half vampire. They call me 'the Daywalker'. I have all their strengths, none of their weaknesses, except for the thirst. 20 years ago, I met a man that changed that. Whistler. He taught me how to hold the thirst at bay. Taught me the rules. Gave me the weapons to hunt with - silver, garlic, sunlight. Two years ago, he was attacked. They took him, and turned him into the thing I hate most. I should have finished him off. Now, I'm hunting him. I will find him. And nothing will stand in my way.

Eli Damaskinos -

  • Who do you think God really favors in the web? The spider, or the fly?

Jared Nomak -

  • Blade. Is the enemy of my enemy my friend... or my enemy?

Dialogue

1) Scud: So B-man, what do you think? Blade: Sounds like a plan. Whistler: What do you really think? Blade: They're gonna fuck us the first chance they get.

Conclusion

Blade II was a commercial success in the box office and made 150 million dollars worldwide. Critical reactions were also somewhat positive and favourable to the movie. The celebrated movie critic Roger Ebert gave it 3.5 stars out of 4 and said that "this is a comic book movie for mad surgeons" and praised its visuals and style. Blade II was made after the success of the first Blade. The success of the second Blade movie led to one more movie being made in the Blade series called 'Blade: Trinity'. It is universally agreed that the best movie in the Blade series is the second one, that is, this one. Blade II deserves to be the best as well. With good direction by Del Toro and Wesley Snipes once again at his best and playing his most well known performance as Blade surely adds this as one of the movies that every comic book movie fan must have in his or her collection.

The soundtrack that was released for the movie had a mix of hip-hop and electronic music. Wesley Snipes made this second movie very cool, and Del Toro's high visual style and taking inspirations from comic books and Japanese animation were really good ideas. All that made this into a fun, enjoyable, cool action movie. So due to all of these reasons, it is easy to understand that, definitely, Blade II is one of those Awesome Movies.
