Korean Actor - Lee Min Ho ( A Star to Watch)

Lee Min-ho was born in Seoul, South Korea on June 22, 1987. His family consists of his parents and an older sister. As a young child, he had hoped to become a soccerplayer, an injury in the 5th grade of elementary school put an end to that dream. In his second year of high school, Min-ho turned to acting and landed small roles in several television dramas, but none were successful.

In 2006, his acting career was put on hold for a year following a serious car accident in which he was severely injured, along with his childhood friend, fellow actorJung Il-woo. At the time, Min Ho was supposed to star in a sitcom called “Unstoppable High Kicks”, one that made his best friend Jung Il Woo a household name in Korea. However, the unfortunate car accident changed everything, and more bad luck follows. After near a year of rehabilitation, he went back to work, shooting commercials, taking roles in some high school drama series. But for one reason or another, the commercials he made were blocked from airing; the drama series he starred in were cancelled due to the low ratings. His mother worried a lot those days about his future, and all he could do was to try harder and hope that better thing would come.

His breakthrough finally arrived in 2009 with the lead role of Gu Jun-Pyo inBoys Over Flowers(KBS2), the Korean adaptation of the popular Japanese television drama. He plays a rich boy falls in love with an underprivileged girl. His dashing looks and adorable, sometimes overbearing personality attract millions of female fans in Asia. For the first time in his life, he tasted sweetness of success.

The following year, he took on a role of young and talented architect who pretends to be a gay to help his career but later falls in love with a woman in “Personal Taste”. It is a surprisingly good drama, full of humor, charm and touching moments. The storyline is refreshing and delightful. The acting is believable and moving; a drama one can watch time and time again and not grow tired of it.

In 2011, he starred in a hit action drama seriesCity Hunter.The story takes place in Seoul, 2011. He plays Lee Yoon Sung, a talented MIT-graduate, who works on the international communications team in the Blue House. He plans revenge on five politicians who caused his father’s death with his surrogate father Lee Jin Pyo and eventually becomes a “City Hunter.”

Lee Min Ho’s newest drama series is called “Faith” (also known as “The Great Doctor”). He plays Choi Young, a bodyguard to the king in the mid-1300s of the Goryeo Dynasty, a 29-years-old warrior, who has no regrets in life, no ambition for women or money. His hobby is sleep, and he does not afraid of death. He seldom strategizes, always attacks things head-on. If he happens to succeed, great; if he fails and dies, so be it. But all that changes when he travels to present day and kidnaps a female doctor to Goryeo to save the Queen’s life. He finds that other than fighting combats, eat and sleep, there is also a room for some love and romance. I enjoy this drama very much (except for the ending), and it quickly becomes my second favorite historic mini-series of all time.

All and all, Lee Min Ho is a gifted young actor, tall, handsome, mature for his age, hardworking, with enterprising spirit. At the tender age of 25, he has lived through lots of tough times, and overcome many difficulties and hardships. Success does not come easy. He knows it the first hand. I like the fact that he always challenges himself, pushes himself to be a better actor, a better human being. He is like a good aging wine, the more you know about him, and the more you love him.
