Watching Oliver Stone's "The Doors" and it's trippy -- no matter how many times I've seen it.
What is your favorite movie about a musician or musical group?
This was the first movie I saw in a theater and I was inconsolable at the end. "Not my Rickyyy!" Oh, kills me! My poor babysitter had taken me and I remember her trying to tell me that it was just a movie, but I knew that it was TRUE. Sad times, good flick.
There was a movie called " Singles " that came out In the early 90s . The soundtrack music on It was awesome !
You guys will laugh but it's a classic, West Side Story, the music and the movie are wonderful!
Honors to Pretty Woman soundtrack, great soundtrack if you have never heard it.
Rocky Horror Picture Show is cult classic, but an even better one, I have always loved music of Les Mis
I love Sid and Nancy...
I loved Almost Famous also
Across the Universe, That Thing You Do!, and Purple Rain
Do not watch Chapter 27 (especially at 2am right before you go to sleep like I did), not a rock movie, but it scared the hell outta me!
Detroit Rock City, about 4 teen friends that try to scam their way into a Kiss concert in 1978. Very cool
Does "The Wall" count?
Also, Almost Famous and Spinal Tap are very good. I also second tksensei's Blues Brothers. "We're on a mission from God." Classic.
How about Eddie and the Cruisers? This movie put John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band on the charts with the song "On the Dark Side."
Thumbs up to The Wall and The Blues Brothers also.
Good picks (and pics) all around!
Thanks for the Spinal Tap scene -- I knew before I even clicked on it it was going to be the "11" scene. Christopher Guest is a genius. And "A Mighty Wind" is his comedic take on folk music.
Concert movies definitely count. Two of my faves have always been "The Last Waltz" about The Band and "Gimme Shelter" -- the historic Stones concert at Altamont.
Both excellent MM And puppascott - I forgot about Eddie & the Cruisers! D'oh! Good one!!
Absolutely! Best In Show is BRILLIANT!
We could start a forum thread about best animal movies:-)! MM
I really like Purple Rain. The story wasn't great but the music was excellent. I am also a big West Side Story fan.
my favorite musical movie is the wall. But for a movie about a musician, I loved Amadeus.
I really love the music in "Lady sings the Blues" its the life/bio of legendary Jazz and Blues singer Billie Holiday.
Dianna Ross actually did a pretty descent job playing the role of one of my all time favorite singers.
The acting was not too great in the "Jazz singer" played by Neil Diamond. But I like his music. (do I dare admit to owning all of his records, tapes including the ones on eight track, CDs and movies)
MM, I watched "The Doors" movie with my daughter a couple of months ago for the first time. It is really well made, I was surprised.

Best rock song of all time? It's a pretty broad term, so feel free to just write down the first tune that pops up to your mind.

Rock in its pure form. Not pop-rock. Not country-rock , nor any other rock. Rock for Rock's sake. You may have an entirely different set of songs in your list. For, there are really 100s of pure rock songs. But...
