I am both so I can tell you that a humorist usually uses sarcasm when writing material for the reader and a comedian tells jokes and does stand up.
Sorry but my personal opinion is both are a lot alike but as to the degree of humour they produce. A humorist will use everyday things like funny moments, mishaps, political people's faux pas,to create humor like a late night talk show host, while a comedian be a he/she can use all other stuff that is satyrical, funny, stand up, or do skits and can interject humor, with wit, puns, laughter, facial expressions or just a look of total bewilder-ment in a situation. Hope that helps!
