I cannot specifically tell you any tips without knowing which instrument you are interested in learning, but perseverance, dedication, patience, discipline, and finally, passion are the basics to learning anything. If your just starting I recommend finding a good teacher for the type of music you want to learn, and obviously the instrument, too. Be prepared to spend a good deal of time practicing, get ready to set some time out of each day in order to improve your musical skills.
