I don't think "better" is the proper term. I read the books and saw the movie, and i can tell you the books are less dumb than the movie. Still, they're mediocre at best, sort of a "Mad Max" for pimpled teenagers.
I don’t know about the book, but I do not recommend the movie at all. After seeing that film I am definitely not reading the book it was inspired on.
The books are better but the movie is definitely worth seeing.
I think because the books are more informative than the movie, that the books are better. I say this because I know that the directors don't have time to get every single detail into the movie.
I haven't read the book but I will not recommend the movie. I went with some friends because they have read the book and enjoyed it. But all of them were disappointed in the movie. It wasn't a bad movie but the shaking of the camera in some action sequence gives you headaches. Definitely something that could have being done better.

I liked the book and the movie but I was left wanting. I kept asking myself "why is there country like this, why is this happening?". I wish there had been more back story, what do you guys think?...
