Very smart guy.  He destroys Christian religious sites in his film but fears destroying Islamic sites because he doesn't want a death sentence issued by Islamic clerics:  http://movies.yahoo.com/feature/movie-t … fatwa.html

This is the first time I ever read a director publicly admitting this fear.

Most religions use fear to subdue their followers but Islam takes it a step further.  It is now causing fear in non-Islamic believers .

    Very interesting!

I think in choosing to create a public discourse about the state of Islam, the director is presenting more of a threat to the religion than if he indiscriminately destroyed a monument in a superficial action movie.  This whole thing is actually a pretty smart political choice on his part, because in refusing to include the scene and then talking about it, he is able to single out the religion as corrupt without the fear of being personally accountable.

Technically, he hasn't committed any great injustice towards the Islamic faith - In fact, he's gone out of his way not to.  Instead he's letting everybody else do the talking without putting himself on the line.

I gotta say, though, honestly I'm not entirely sure even Islamic extremists would ever target a useless Hollywood film director for showing the destruction of multiple competing religious symbols.  There is no overt anti-Islamic sentiment, and that is what scares these people.  People like Theo Van Gogh and Ayaan Hirsi Ali - who is still alive, by the way -  directly condemn the ideology and that is why they are individual enemies of the faith.  Emmerich just made a mindless disaster movie.

Yeah ! christian religionists ain't afraid a no moslem religionists. Any one see where that is going? sad

Still one of 2 things will happen here:

The christian religionists will go back to the good old days of burning witches. Or the muslim religionists will join the 21st century.

Didn't some Canadians assisinate G.W.B. in a movie a few years ago?

          They didn't seem to mind.

Remember that scene in Independence Day, granted they weren't religious monuments but they sure did blow up a bunch of important places in that movie. Also Armageddon, The Day After Tomorrow...Blew em' up real good!

Well, Salmon Rushdie had to live the rest of his life in hiding after his Islamic death threat for The Satanic Verses.

I wouldn't want to live a life like that.

Rushdie is still alive and gets an annual death threat from Iran every February 14.

I'm not disagreeing with the premise but I believe Rushdie made an announcement that he "embraced" Islam and apologized for offending the Muslim world with his Satanic Verses. In 1998 Iran dropped the fatwa against him and he has been "out of hiding" since. But I'm sure he's sleeping with one eye open.

I wish the muslims would join the 21st century it sure would make life a lot easier.but I fear that they are mentally chained to islam and will not be able to free their minds from a man made religion just like a lot of us MAN CREATED relgion.MAN wrote the bible and man wrote the koran.Once people sit down and really think about that, then maybe just maybe we can move forward and live in peace.but that ain't gonna happen.if the director is scared than he shouldn't have put them in there in the first place.hell stop making movies with muslims stuff in it,and you wouldn't have that problem, and if you did that muslims would protest saying you're not making movies with muslims in it so I say destroy the stuff because its just a movie and even the most extreme muslim should know the difference between fantasy and real life.
