Does rap music reflect society's problems or add to them?
Well music in general affect us. Rap music may influence the weak minded to do wrong, but not all rap music is bad.
I remember my parents ranting and raving about rock n roll being the devils music, but yet today, it still lives and breathes and we are all okay. Then came headbanger music! I thought, what the......! What it comes down to, is expression. Rap music may talk street issues, but it is a world they are living and working through to understand themselves. People are simply influenced by other people through all kinds of mediums. TV and even books! Remember "Catcher In the Rye"....the book the guy had been reading when he shot John Lennon! Not all rap music is full of bad notions!
Mark Chapman obviously had serious mental issues, people with such issues can be triggered off by all sorts of things, from reading books to listening to music.
As Chris Rock said " i love rap music but i am tired of defending it".
I love rap music
I think it is a reflection on society and is good, but rap with excessively overt lyrics can add to society's problems i.e. children hearing swear words

Am I the only one who thinks rap shouldn't be considered music? It isn't singing, its just fast talking- they are pretty much all about the same things, and all sound similar. Why is rap such a popular genre of music?

What are the TEN WAYS that rap music has negatively impacted, even degenerated &demoralized, postmodern American society, cultures & mores?

We study Shakespeare's poems, and those of other classic writers. Shakespeare's poetry has been around for more than five hundred years! And yet today, children are learning about it in high school. Which makes me wonder: Who will be remembered and celebrated five hundred years...

thug culture is desensitizing many young people and is bastardizing degrading, and lowering the sociocultural paradigms and parameters of American society? NOTE: I meant to overemphasize the world glorification as gllorification, it was NOT a typo.
