What is your favorite childhood movie, and what was your special snack for while you watched it?
My favorite childhood movie was Annie. It was also the first time I had been to a walk-in movie theater. And, my special snack was anything sweet!
Definitely the Wizard of Oz. It aired on television every fall and that was the only way to see the Wizard of Oz at that time. We watched it every year throughout my childhood.
Snack? I know my mom would buy a 2 litre bottle of pop once a week and that was our only chance to have pop. I think we probably had chips, too but I don't remember that part as well.
Beauty and the Beast while eating Cherrios. Currently, my favorite childhood movie is Tangled and I love kettle corn while watching it.
From about when I was seven or eight Dad would take us to see a film on Friday nights. There was a lot of choice then, before everyone had a telly (TV) and videos 'did it' for the cinema business. We had two or three places in Middlesbrough, the Lyric in Grangetown, Forum in Normanby and Majestic and Empire in South Bank - the furthest less than a half hour bus ride from Eston (see my profile).
We saw a fair cross-section of films from colour Hollywood musicals to black & white dramas with actors such as Stanley Baker and Stuart Granger early in their careers. Cary Grant in 'To Catch A Thief' with Grace Kelly was one of the more light-hearted Hitchcock films I liked, or Sean Connery and Tippi Hedren in 'Marnie', but that was a lot later when I started going on my own.
My snack option of choice every time we got into the foyer was a Mars Bar. They only sell overpriced snacks in cinemas these days. Mars doesn't get a look in - not exactly PC. It didn't last the film either, the Mars Bar that is. They were bigger then as well. I sometimes got something else after the interval - if it was a long film, like 'A Night To Remember' with Kenneth More as Captain Smith on the Titantic, or when he was directing operations in 'Sink The Bismarck' (told you I saw a wide selection, but I haven't really got a 'fave'. The only ones I didn't like were the big budget Hollywood musicals)!
I loved horror movies as a child. Chid's play was my most favorite. I was a died hard fan of Chucky (Charles Lee Ray) no matter how much I feared her. And i know i was only 5 or something and shouldn't have watched that stuff. Doesn't matter now.
