Why is Katy Perry so much Loved?

Katy Perry has the highest number of followers on twitter. More people can sing much better than her, and how did she gain such fame?

It's shallow, but FatFreddysCat is right. Maybe she is just my 'type' but I personally think she's at the top of the list for attractive singers.

I suspect she has more (female) followers than male followers.
A lot of  young women can relate to her as she is attractive but not exactly "drop dead gorgeous" which makes her more (relatable).
She sings songs with an element of "self-empowerment" and being a "free spirit". There is a certain honesty and vulnerability conveyed during her interviews. She doesn't seem pretentious.
A lot of  men also probably admire her body as FatFreddysCat suggested. She can be seen as "sexy" without being "slutty". She retains wholesome elements in her image of "the girl next door".

Very relevant answer.  Particularly She retains wholesome elements in her image of "the girl next door". She is never pretentious. The fact is that she is an average singer yet loved and followed a lot.

Maybe because they think she's "hot" and love her music (her music is catchy). Plus she has an offbeat, quirky personality. I personally think she is basic, boring, and doesn't really sing well (she's not a bad singer but not the BEST!!!). She's a little above mediocre at best.

I guess may be because of so much promo on media, in the papers and mags. Personally I think it's because of the media. She's a-kind-of-alright artist and may be bit sweet also.

Because there is no justice in this world. Any universe in which someone can write tedious bollocks like "Roar" and not be immediately blacklisted from society is a universe that isn't working properly.

I'll admit that Katy Perry isn't the greatest singer in the world, but her songs are undeniably catchy. You could hate the song and still find yourself singing it in the shower. Plus, she tows the line between being offensive with songs like 'Peacock' and inspirational with songs like 'firework'. It's the exact recipe for success with teens. And, aside from being stunningly beautiful, she has a sort of 50s pin-up style that separates her look from other singers in her genre. She may not do anything new or revolutionary with music, but she struck gold at the right time.
