What's the best thing a husband can do to help out his significant other who just had a baby?

One very kind thing when the baby cries at night, feed the baby - or if the baby is nursing, get up and bring the baby to your wife.  Those extra saved steps are very welcome because she is exhausted.

Also be aware that she may be emotional and over sensitive due to lack of sleep and hormones.  Just be kind and loving and help her in any way you can.  I remember how much I appreciated the little things my husband did when we brought our first little gal home.

When the babies are new, sometimes they just want to be cuddled to sleep. My husband would cuddle with the baby and let me take a nap. I slept great during those naps because I knew the baby was safe and I could sleep soundly.

Helping out with household stuff (like cleaning, cooking, laundry) is especially appreciated. Helping out in any way will speak volumes to your wife and new mother!

He can keep his hands off of her, because she ISN'T interested in "you-know-what" just then......

If your wife is nursing she will be very exhausted from the labor and the extra energy breastfeeding takes, it would be great for you to allow her to sleep while you care for your newborn. My husband allowed me to sleep and would care for our daughter until she wanted to feed and would change her and bring her to me. This will help her alot to build her energy up for when she will be alone with the baby. Rotating who takes care of her so each of you could get adequate sleep would make everything alot easier. Hope this helps!
