How do you motivate your children to keep a clean room?
Plain and simple - bribery! I find that this always works. In order to earn her pocket money on a Friday evening, my daughter must make her bed each morning and tidy up before going to school. At the end of the evening before bed, I find that she tidies up to make it less of a job for her in the morning.
It has worked so far, long may it continue.
From young, I practise reward system where they will get points for every good things they do like cleaning up their rooms, packing their clothes, etc.
These points can be used for buying their favorite food, toys, etc.
I can say that it really motivates them to do the right things at home.
My niece likes songs and candy.. I agree with jacqui2011, bribery works every time. It doesn't even have to be candy or food every time. Try rewarding them with TV time or a fun activity.
