Why is it that old people and teenaged boys never stop to allow people to cross in crosswalks?

I honestly don't think it's just old people and teenage boys who do this. I've had this happen to me many times by a variety of drivers. It's illegal not to yield for pedestrians in crosswalks in NY. I'm not sure how many other states have this law. But, of course, it's like any other law of this kind - it's difficult to enforce.

Great question Shea, made me chuckle. the answer has to be their well developed sense of entitlement. In the young because they are obviously entitled to everything and in the old because they have gone on giving way for far too long and now it's their turn.

It's not just old people and boys.  I was almost hit twice while crossing the road.  I had my daughter in the stroller both times and the offending driver was a woman...both times.  Not the same woman either.
So, I know from experience that it is different ages and both sexes that can be careless and non-caring.

Contraire, contraire, my good man. :0)

I was recently passing by a school and I noticed a young lady waiting to cross the street at a "cross walk". Six cars passed by her without stopping until the seventh car stopped to let her cross. What did the first six cars have in common? They were all driven by adult women. The seventh car was a young man.

Just like alloporus, I too laughed when I read your question. I comment to my wife all the time how senior citizens will meander through the crosswalk, but look out if you are crossing and they are driving because many do not stop or slow down for pedestrians. We kid around that if you can't see the driver's head above the headrest or if it is a male (any age) wearing a baseball cap, then be on guard. Of course I am generalizing, but it makes for great conversation.

The teenage boys are thinking about the girls they just passed further up the block and the old men are only teenage boys with 50 years' experience but no more good sense!!  Will you be asking about the girls who text message these days and run over the folks in the crosswalk in your next question?  Just curious...

i have been almost hit by another woman, and my daughter was sideswiped by a girl who was on the phone.  I really don't see anything wrong with your question about the girls who text, but may I add that my ex has my son steer the auto so he can text.
