How old does a child need to be to decide which parent to live with?
Unless the child is in Texas or Indiana where the age is 14 then the child will have to wait until 18. The 12 year old thing is a misconception. While a 12 year old can have the court consider their wants the court is not required to do what the child wants.
as long the child reach 18 years old, she/he is consider an adult. Hence, he/she is able to decide whom to live with.
I think this totally depends on the child and their maturity, understanding and reasons. When I was 12 I chose to live with my dad ad stepmum rather than my biological mum and it was defiantly the best choice for me.
