How old were your kids when they got their first cell phone?
I got my older daughter her first cell phone for her Christmas present when she was 12. She actually was almost 13 because her birthday is in the beginning of January. She was starting to get involved on the track team and would need a phone to call when she needed a ride. I got her a virgin-a pre-pay phone so we didn't have to get a contract. My younger daughter is 18 now and has no desire to have a cell
My kids, around 15-16 years of age. It was more for safety reasons. There are very few pay phones left anymore and the if you find one, it is usually out-of-order.
