You do not have to participate in a long-distance relationship. That is the only way you can prevent being entangled in one. Decide for yourself that you only accept relationships that keep you and your loved one together and nearby. Let go of anyone who believes a long-distance relationship will work. If a relationship has devolved from close to long-distance (let's say he's moved out of state or overseas) and you are unhappy about this, say goodbye, that this relationship is not satisfactory for you, and free yourself to find someone else better aligned with your idea of what a relationship is.
