Mexican Carnitas

I love Mexican food

I love Mexican food and some recipes are not difficult to make yet have the authentic flavor, this is one of them.

This is another great recipe to use up leftovers, and save you time. You can have it cooking while you are off working and come home to a wonderful, flavorful one pot meal. All you will have to do is get it dressed up on your plate and enjoy!

Cook Time

Prep time: 20 min
Cook time: 8 hours
Ready in: 8 hours 20 min
Yields: 6-10


  • 1 crock pot
  • 2 cans beef broth
  • 2 tsp liquid smoke
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 tsp oregano
  • 2 tsp cumin
  • 8 cloves garlic, chopped
  • (1-2) onions, chopped
  • (1) 3-4 lb pork shoulder


  1. Place all items on ingredient list in a crock pot on low for 8 hours
  2. The meat will "self shred"as you prepare your plate

Prepare your plate

The recipe above is for the meat only. You will want to add toppings of your choice to tacos, tortillas, or a salad bowl. Pile your plate high with your favorite items!

I suggest the following typical taco items; brown or white rice, romaine lettuce, refried beans, lime, salsa, hot sauce, cheese, Queso Fresco, black beans, cilantro, onions, peppers, sour cream, corn, green chilies, black olives, guacamole, and anything else you enjoy on a Mexican dish.
