   How does one open a bottle of wine without a corkscrew & without breaking the bottle?
   
   I cannot believe that an Irish household - namely mine - is without a corkscrew!  I have a feeling my father-in-law put it in his back pocket the last time he visited (darn bar owners are corkscrew thieves!)  Help!  I have a beautiful bottle of wine that needs to breathe you know, for medicinal purposes.

   I have had to endure this very unfortunate event, and the only way to get it open without breaking the bottle is to push the cork into the bottle. Find something that will fit into the bottle neck, like a butter knife or similar, and keep pushing until  it surrenders. Cheers to good health!

      I tried to get the cork out. Actually took my Swiss Army knife and got the cork to twist. Thought there was hope but then it popped IN the bottle. Instead of 1 glass I had 2...and I'll have to kill the bottle.  Poor me!  LOL  Thanks for replying

   ive been known to screw a long-ish deck screw into the cork,... use a screw driver or power drill,.... then get a friend or helpful family member to pull on the screw with a pair of pliers.
   
   from one red neck who likes her wine,... cheers

      I started with a long wood screw and nearly fell on my butt when it popped out of the cork.  Tried a deck screw but the damage was done.  Ended up doing what J Sweet Tooth & mireland19 said and popped the cork in the bottle. Meh

   Use a hypodermic needle and inject air into the bottle by going through the cork.

   I have opened a few bottles of wine without a corkscrew by wrecking the cork with a knife and pushing it into the bottle .. I haven't had any wine for a week now ... I hope you succeed !
