I have never had a Krispy Kreme donut. (We have Dunkin' Donuts and Tim Hortons around here, in New England)...everytime I travel and have the opportunity to try a Krispy Kreme, I am never in the mood for a donut!
When I do indulge, I prefer to keep it simple - honey glazed are my absolute favorite.
I like regular old glazed ones best of the common sorts, but my absolute favorite donut ever is the apple cider donuts at Kimmel Orchard in Nebraska City. My mouth is watering just thinking about them!
I actually have a donut phobia (no joke, I've actually had dreams about them chasing me), but I'll eat ones I bake myself. My recipe's up as a hub, in fact, if anyone's interested in a non-fried alternative.
Maddie, thank you for the non-fried alternative. It takes away all the guilt! Other than the obvious advantage of not experiencing a phobia of your own homemade doughnuts , how do they stack up against commercial varieties?
I have no idea, I haven't eaten a fried donut in years. They certainly taste less like oil, and I prefer mine less sweet than I imagine most people do, but I've provided several topping/coating options as well, which vary in sweetness.
