Shila, I enjoyed Jim Neely's BBQ in Memphis, Tennessee.  It's a favorite for locals and informed tourists.

In Little Rock (where we are currently residing) the best BBQ place we have eaten at is the whole hog cafe. They are locally owned (big plus). It is on cantrell ave.  They have been showcased on Diners, Drive-ins, and Drives (foodnetwork). They have a wide variety of meats (ranging from smoked chicken, brisket, pulled pork, and kielbasa) and combination plates to choose from.  They have six different sauces on the table to choose from. Ranging from sweet and mild to VERY spicy. The prices are good; the average plate is under 10 dollars. It is a very laid back, relaxed family atmosphere. They are world renowned for their potato salad, but also have the normal side dishes like french fries, cole slaw, and baked beans. They have trophies, plaques, and banners all over the restaurant from awards they have won in contests for their BBQ. Probably close to 150.

Thats what I recommend here. If you are up for a road trip, i highly recommend Rendezvous in Memphis.

Thanks foodie for answering this. This would be in my 'list to do' things for sure. Sounds like a fantastic place to be to dig into some BBQ.

The best I ever ate was at a little run down joint in Eden, North Carolina.  It was Fuzzy's, and is no longer there.  Their q was so lean and still so juicy.  And their tomato-vinegary sauce was very thin, and they kept it hot in coffee decanters.  Soooo good.  Another AWESOME bbq place that is the closest to Fuzzy's I've ever eaten is the Checkered Pig in Danville, VA.  Though it's in southern VA, they still have a nice NC sauce.  Mmmmm.  And here I am stuck in Iowa!
