What's your favorite tuna salad recipe and why?
This is meat for a Hub. Do you have special memories about a tuna salad recipe? Are there legends or rules in your family about what ingredients belong in a tuna salad? Did you have a great experience, like a first date, that involved tuna salad? Or do you just hate it?
I always loved it when my mom would make the tuna salad because she put everything but the kitchen sink in it and made a meal. Following is my modified version:
1 can Tuna in water
1 Celery stock - finely chopped
1/2 yellow Onion - finely chopped or grated
1 1/2 or 2 tblsp Mayonnaise
1 tsp of spicy Mustard
1 tbsp Sweet Pickle Relish
Salt and Pepper to taste
1 tsp Dill Weed
1 tsp Lemon Juice
I like this recipe because it combines sweet, savory and sour/salty and is very satisfying on a bed of lettuce or some good whole grain bread. You can also lighten it up a bit by using light or fat free mayo.
If you like artichokes the following recipe is great with crackers:
2 cans tuna in water, drained and flaked
1 can quartered artichokes
1 small can sliced black olives
1/3 cup mayo
2 tsp. lemon juice
1 1/2 tsp oregano
dash of pepper
Combine all ingredients and mix well. Serve with your favorite whole grain crackers and enjoy!
My favorite tuna salad recipe includes lettuce, salad dressing, chopped onions, honey mustard, and, of course, canned tuna.
